Avast Home Edition works, and it's free for personal, non-commercial use. I had no problems dealing with it, and it ran rather seamlessly in builds 7000 and 7100.

It's either that you burned it too fast (4~8x works), or something went wrong with the process. Try using Imgburn with UDF as the filesystem. I ran into that error while attempting to build an RC1 image.
