I had the same screen come up and did a re-install and let Win7 reformat the hard-drive. Then it worked and installed properly (albeit I don't know why)....

I have a Win& box running fine and installed a CODEC I need from Pegasus. This is a commercial product and needs activation. Before one went to Device Manager and to Audio devices and then (mysteriously) you could find Audio and Video codec's that are installed. Accessing their "Properties"...

if you have a spare old hard disc lying around, why not try replacing existing hard disc in the computer and doing a CLEAN install. This will verify that there are no hardware compatibility problems. UPGRADES seem to be a hassle.

Another thing you might consider is the computer BIOS. I had problems on a 3-4 yr old HP until I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version. I assume the problem was with graphics or perhaps the SATA driver. Anyway make sure BIOS is latest.

Same problem Had same problem then did re-install. Noted that one time Windows Update did an update on the SATA drivers .. maybe this is problem. Anyone else have SATA disc problems. Have a test system with IDE drive and it seems very robust.

Fixed by BIOS update Just to advise that updated the BIOS on the HP and now it installs OK. BIOS was late 2005 before upgrade now is mid 2007.

I had a 2nd hard drive in my HP Pavilion which runs XP SP3 so decided to create a partition and then boot from Win 7 build 7057 DVD and install. Windows started and got its startup files from DVD then saw screen with "Windows Starting" followed a few seconds later by blue screen with a STOP...
