So after updating the eTron drivers, my usb multi card reader came up as a non responding device. I guess the previous drivers didnt handle it very well, the new ones just tell me that its delinquent. Anyway, I've removed that device from my machine, all is well now.

I updated the eTron usb 3.0 driver first and that seems to have done the trick! I may still go ahead and update some of the other things that you mentioned just for good measure, but for now Im happy with a computer that will shut down with no bsod. I have no idea how this could have gone awry...
