    Windows 7 Dual boot Server 2008 R2/Win 7 issue

Windows 7 couldn't boot at all and Server 2008 R2 is a Core installation (no gui, just command line) so I couldn't check that. I did get it working, but I honestly don't know how. I went in through the WIn 7 install disc and ran through the repair options. At the first screen it wouldn't...

Haven't been around in a while

The site looks awesome! I don't think I've really posted here at all since late last year, so I didn't see all these site changes take place. Just wanted to say Mike you're doing a great job! I need to khang around here more often, this is by far the most feature rich site I've been on.

    Windows 7 Dual boot Server 2008 R2/Win 7 issue

Quick rundown of what happened: My desktop has 2 hard drives, 1TB and 320GB. I have Win 7 installed on the TB drive, and I use the 320GB drive for testing. I previously had a full installation of Server 2008 Enterprise on the 320GB drive. Yesterday I went and installed Server 2008 R2 on the...

    What's your Cinebench Score?

Nice score polypusher. I've got my new 1000W PSU on the way so as soon as it gets in I'll get some new tests done at 4.4Ghz+.

Windows 7 Windows 7, is Vista fixed and spruced up a bit!!

Have you used 7? It's much faster than Vista, the gui is better and more refined. I'm not going to argue that it's not generally the same OS because it is, but IMO they made alot of changes to Win 7 that make it more than a minor update. It's also a big relief for those of us that work in IT...

Windows 7 Windows 7, is Vista fixed and spruced up a bit!!

Really? That's what you have to contribute to the forum? If you read a little bit you'll see that while it's the same underlying structure Windows 7 is far superior to Vista. If you don't think it's worth it, don't buy it. Simple as that.

    Laptop HDD Replacement Choice

7200 rpm is going to run hotter and IMO not give you much of a performance gain over the 160GB. Since the 160GB is bigger it will have denser platters (should anyway) so even though it's 5400 rpm it should be close to as fast as the 7200 rpm drive. If you need to replace it always get bigger...

    What's your Cinebench Score?

Here's my attempt to revive this thread and give you guys something to shoot for. ;) I can actually do much better, but because I'm limited by my power supply right now I can't stay stable above 3.6Ghz. My cpu will do a full 4.6Ghz on air, but my power supply can't handle it at load(500W PSU...

Upgrade time, 12GB Core i7 system!

I finally got around to getting my upgraded hardware. Unfortunately I picked the absolute worst week ever to try to pull this off. I closed on my new house yesterday (Link Removed due to 404 Error Check the Final Walkthrough folder to see what it looks like finished) and am consulting for a...

Anyone here a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)?

Take any one Microsoft exam and you're automatically a MCP. Actually, most of the newest tests will get you a MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) but it's the same thing. I'd recommend studying and taking a desktop OS exam of your choice. They tend to be the easier ones and if...

    Do you work in IT?

John - I'm talking about keeping all the data in one spot and accessing it that way. You can do this easily with a PC, just share the folder out (that you will keep all the data in) and map a drive to that resource from the other computers. Or you can do it through the Homegroup feature in Win...

    Do you work in IT?

Get some kind of network storage, or dedicate a PC to share storage on. That way you're always pulling the data from the same place and if you make any changes it'll be in one centralized location. It's easy to do with Homegroups in Win 7, or you could buy/build a NAS. My personal...

Drew, what certs/experience do you have out of curiosity? I'm wondering how much experience I should have if I ever decide to start my own consulting business.
