Windows 10 W10 Cumulative Update (KB3140745) Fails
Please don't mistake me for a newbie user. This is obviously something more advanced than you're accustomed to dealing with, so I'd appreciate it if you'd let someone else reply. Thanks for your help.- Cincinnatus

Windows 10 W10 Cumulative Update (KB3140745) Fails
If only it were that easy. Per my OP, I have already tried SFC and DISM commands with no errors reported. Something's preventing the system from updating, and it's really annoying because the fan on my laptop is running like mad.- Cincinnatus

Windows 10 W10 Cumulative Update (KB3140745) Fails
If you were suggesting I download and manually apply the update, that doesn't work either, I've already tried.- Cincinnatus

Windows 10 W10 Cumulative Update (KB3140745) Fails
I've been trying to get my laptop (HP Envy 15T CTO) to install Cumulative Update KB3140745 with no luck. The machine gets stuck on 'restarting', and I have to power off. I have tried to jump directly to 3140768 by way of a standalone file downloaded from MS, but my machine rejects it with an...- Cincinnatus

Adobe Flash Not Downloading
Well, immodestly stated, the 'tool' I'm using is intuition based on 20+ years in the IT business which suggests to me that if there were hardware failure, it would be manifesting itself in other ways. I'm seeing no such behavior on the system. Turns out it was simpler than I thought. I...- Cincinnatus

Adobe Flash Not Downloading
Thanks for the suggestions, but I think we might be well into 'overkill territory' on some of them. I'd rather just live without Flash than to go through a reinstall - that's just not the answer for me. As to the rest: System was a clean install of W10 I don't enable system restore to...- Cincinnatus

Adobe Flash Not Downloading
I do have CC installed, but only Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat. No, I didn't disable Norton previously because all the Flash updates have always worked. I just now tried turning off the firewall and AV, used the cleaner tool, and tried to install again, but it didn't work...- Cincinnatus

Adobe Flash Not Downloading
I'm generally not one to use utilities like that. Sometimes they screw up more stuff than they fix. What's your opinion of Advanced System Care? It was strongly recommended by a friend.- Cincinnatus

Adobe Flash Not Downloading
I tried to update Adobe Flash on my system per the warning, and it just didn't want to install. The install utility launches, but when it connects to the Adobe Server, nothing downloads. I tried their uninstaller to remove the entire code from my machine, and it seems to have done the job, but...- Cincinnatus

Windows 10 Windows Update Won't Apply
I think we're a bit OT here. More troubling than that one update is why the other Windows 10 patches didn't apply.- Cincinnatus

Windows 10 Windows Update Won't Apply
I did a fresh install of the utility on a clean install of Windows 10. I've seen cases before where programs rely on legacy code and redistributables, so I'm guessing that's what's going on here.- Cincinnatus

Windows 10 Windows Update Won't Apply
That update was triggered by Extensis Suitcase font manager. I wound up reverting to a 'vanilla' clean install of 10 and I'm in the process of reinstalling all my apps. It's a total PITA and I surely hope Microsoft will reconsider this ill-advised strategy of forcing updates.- Cincinnatus

Windows 10 Windows Update Won't Apply
Don't know how to hide updates on this version of Windows. I did turn off updates for other MS products, no help. One thing that is troubling is a notice in red text that I never saw before: 'some settings are managed by your organization'. Might it have something to do with admin...- Cincinnatus

Windows 10 Windows Update Won't Apply
Yep, that seems to be a problem. Here are the updates that failed to install: KB2538243 (Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack) KB3081436 (Cumulative Update for Windows 10) KB3081438 (same as above) [ETA: I've been restarting both warm boot and cold boot all day with no luck] Any assistance is...- Cincinnatus

I keep getting a notice that KB3081438 needs to apply, it downloads and I manually restart the machine, but for some reason the patch isn't being applied. Any help out there for this? Thanks!- Cincinnatus
