Well Windows Vista is a good start for a new OS. But its hardly finished. There are lots of rough edges. I disabled my Aero UI and I'm using the system with Windows Standard theme, and the HDD only has activity for 1-2 minutes after boot up compared to the Vista Theme w/ and w/o Aero enabled...

Try installing everything in Admin mode, that way you have less problems. If it really bothers you can also disable UAC so that you have full control of everything. I just installed Service Pack 1 for Vista and it seems to make the OS a little better. Not too much change.

I didn't like Vista at first but now after giving it a chance i really like it. My notebook functions fine with no problems.
