Windows 7 Basic Search for a file - does it exist on Win 7 ?

Thanks Mike. If you think XP was better at search (like I do) try the everything search from voidtools as suggested before you in this thread. I'm liking it, thanks Pat. I never got on well with locate32. It was an improvement over Win 7 search, but this one from voidtools is a winner.

Windows 7 Basic Search for a file - does it exist on Win 7 ?

Thanks. I've changed that as a result of your suggestion. It doesn't seem to have helped. I just searched on my SSD C Drive which is only 78GB (37GB free) and it took half an hour to search for abc.txt. It's clearly still looking in the files despite me telling it not to via drive properties...

Windows 7 Deleting/Renaming file in Explorer - file is still visible

If I rename a file or delete a file in explorer, after the confirmation dialog is completed (and I've clicked OK to delete the file for example), the file is still there. It's been renamed or deleted, but the old name is there or the file is still there. I have to click refresh or hit F5 in...

Windows 7 Basic Search for a file - does it exist on Win 7 ?

I want to search my entire computer (or perhaps an entire drive or folder structure) for a file called abc.txt. So I navigate in explorer to My Computer (or a drive or a folder structure) and in the top-right corner of explorer, I enter my filename search term. Instead of just seaching for that...

Windows 7 Win 7, things I don't like about it

This is weird. Every time I check all these shell extension boxes, the little tick goes in the box, I click OK and you'd think all is well. But when I go immediately back into the settings (without having done anything else), they're all unticked again. Bizarre. It's no major problem...

Windows 7 Win 7, things I don't like about it

Maybe I'm using the wrong version. I downloaded v3.1, which came as a zip and didn't have any kind of proper installer with it (certainly nothing that matched what was written in the readme.txt). So I have a folder of files. I've tried running each of them and none of them behaved like an...

Windows 7 Win 7, things I don't like about it

Thanks again Mike for the great response. Loving take ownership, didn't get on with locate32 (it didn't give me a right-click explorer search), but best of all is the classic shell. Why everyone who has Windows 7 doesn't install this is a mystery. It totally fixes all the problems Win 7...

Windows 7 Win 7, things I don't like about it

Thanks Mike, some great sounding suggestions there. I've had the following 32 bit apps fail to install, or after installing fail to run. In each case, W7 said "oh no you don't, I'm not having that running on here" (to paraphrase it slightly). Clicking the "find solution online" to it's...

Windows 7 Lazy redraws in XP VM on W7 host

Very disappointed with VMWare experience (again). Converting VHD files to a working VMWare virtual machine is a process that the VMWare player doesn't know anything about. There's a converter on the vmware website but it's so out of date it doesn't even understand Vista, never mind Win 7. I...

Windows 7 Lazy redraws in XP VM on W7 host

. Downloading VMWare now. I haven't tried it since about 2006, at which time I decided I liked Virtual PC more (can't remember why). I hope they still have a VHD -> VMWare converter.

Windows 7 Win7 VPC, VMs better without integration features

I've found that it's much better (in my case) to run without integration features enabled on an XP VM. When I have them enabled, the following happens: - Can't do Start->Shutdown (it's removed from the menu) - Sometimes hangs if you click the Close icon (and have it set to shutdown) - CPU...

Windows 7 Lazy redraws in XP VM on W7 host

This forum's really quiet. Guess I made the wrong Win 7 forum choice. Anyway, I resolved it by reducing the hardware acceleration in the VM by 1. Edit: Make that by 2, I needed one more reduction level of acceleration. Link Removed due to 404 Error

Windows 7 How can I change hosts file ? It won't let me

Now that is perfection. Awesome tip. Cheers :o  :applaud:

Windows 7 Lazy redraws in XP VM on W7 host

Here's an example. Notice the black rectangles and how the systray icons are smeared. If I were to move the mouse cursor over those areas, they'd re-render properly. If I do nothing, they'll stay like that. Link Removed due to 404 Error
