touchfreeze is a bit of a hack to be honest. Most people dont need it so clear it treats a symptom rather then the underlying cause. The fact that most people dont need touchfreeze suggests to me that it should not be needed on my computer either. Id rather have this fixed with driver updates...

Hi, yeah I am already aware of touchfreeze but I have not tried it... not convinced that its the solution i want. This laptop is 4 years old and is currently dual booting with winxp It NEVER exhibits this issue with xp so i dont think its a case of me somehow brushing the touchpad with my palm...

"Base System Device" turns out to be the sd card reader... whichwhen i got the right driver no longer shows a flag. For good measure I managed to track down a CD rom boot image for a bios update. So I have also updated the bios - too soon yet to see if it makes a difference.

Yes there is one - its "Base System Device" - I cant find any compatible driver for this.. do you reckon this could be the problem ?

it was a clean install - ive installed very little - put a few gadgets on and then removed them. Basically its comodo and antivirus (firstly AVG then MSE) its very irritating and im certain its not a hardware fault - it must be a driver issue or a conflict somewhere...
