OK, I managed to replace my optical drive and can FINALLY boot from my DVD (I tore out a old optical drive from an unused lap top and installed it even though it didn't fit perfectly. man I felt like a genius). When I boot from the DVD I get the option to "repair" the XP installation (I need two...
Great idea, thanks. Except oddly enough changing to USB in the BIOS is not an option, yet I do have three USB ports. Man, talk about murphy's law (and I have no floppy drive).
mmm, i Just changed the boot order and it said the following "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \windows\system32\config\system" Any hope of booting it up just once? Is all my data gone?
mmm, i Just changed the boot order (after previous issues) and it said the following "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \windows\system32\config\system" Any hope of booting it up just once? Is all my data gone? My optical drive has not worked for ages so...
NOW, after putting the hard drive BACK in the old laptop I AM abel to power up the laptop. BUT it keeps just looping around from the windows XP opening screen to a DOS screen showing various methods of stating (ie start in SAFE mode, etc) none of which take me through. What does this suggest?
This is a longshot, but could it have anything to do with master vs slave settings? My old drive doesn't even have a jumper on it so I'm guessing the issue is moot. If the jumper setting was the issue, how would I set it to slave if there is no jumper?
Not enough room for an image right now (althuogh there would be if I could get my old drive to act as an external (see my other thread). LOL It was only the directories I chose not to back up so it's ok. I'm not sure what you're saying here, sorry. BUT I simply attempted another backup and...
Hi, I tried backing up last night. Took 3 hours but I digress. When it finished it stated it didn\t complete properly. BUT there are two files on my external drive. One named after my computer but says it is empty (treated as a folder). The other file says MediaID.bin 0 kb. When I check...
Well, got a new enclosure and the same thing. Not getting recognized yet I can hear the drive revving up. The light simply flashes red and green. Next step?
Cool. I'm in Canada so hopefully that doesn't screw me over (as is often the case). Found two others. I may go for it as long as shipping is reasonable.
