    Windows 7 W7 killing router?

Kevin, in another thread I started under support it was suggested that I try doing a netsh winsock reset. I honestly didn't think it was going to work, but after I rebooted the cards started connecting. For future reference, there are heaps of options with netsh that people can try that just...

Windows 7 Win 7 v. XP Network Connection

Ref, you're bloody brilliant! That completely fixed the problem and I am now back online. If you ever get down to Australia I hope you'll let me know. I owe you a six pack of your favorite beer!

    Windows 7 W7 killing router?

Kevin, I unchecked IPv6, rebooted the router and my computer with the same results. I've since uninstalled W7 thinking that may resolve the problem, but it hasn't. Now, for all intents and purposes, I have a paperweight until I can get the stupid network card to work.

Windows 7 Win 7 v. XP Network Connection

Ref, no I haven't tried that one but I'll give it a shot. From what I read on the command the problem I'm experiencing doesn't seem to be a socket error (but anything is worth a try.) I have also tried connecting straight to the modem and rebooted and I'm still having the problem with...

Windows 7 Win 7 v. XP Network Connection

Nope, I'm still getting the same error. I've now unistalled W7 hoping that it may have been causing an issue with no satisfatory results. I'm banging my head against the wall on this one. For what it's worth, I've also tried setting the router to static IP and have set an IP address on the...

    Windows 7 W7 killing router?

Thanks Kevin, I'll give that a try when I get home tonight. I read the link you provided and it sounds a lot like what I've been experiencing.

    Windows 7 W7 killing router?

Yes, you would be correct. The only reason is because my wife works from home and everytime I wanted to do so, she would be doing something 'critical'. As they say, happy wife, happy life. Also, as I mentioned, I have not had any issues with the router in the past, so I honestly didn't even...

    Do you work in IT?

Sure do.. I've been doing IT now for the last 30+ years. I used to hold a MCSE and CNE with several other little nitnoid certs, but let it lapse because of where I was working. Some day I may take the tests again, but at this stage I don't see the point. I've done everything from Fortran V...

Windows 7 Win 7 v. XP Network Connection

Thanks Camride, I have a Linksys WRT54G that has been working flawlessly for ages. The other computers on the LAN don't have any problems, just this one and only in XP. I'll try doing a reboot on the router when I get home tonight and see if that clears the problem up.

    Windows 7 W7 killing router?

I'm not sure if my issue is the same or not, but my network connection seems fine with W7 but appears to be stuffed in XP (I'm dual booting on one system.) I've tried everything I can think of in XP, but the network card won't grab an IP address and tells me I have limited or no connection. The...
