That is exactly what it is doing ;)

I've been using Vista 64 for the last 18 months or so and put Win 7 on the day before yesterday. The performance increase, while not stellar, is as plain to see as the nose on my face ;)

Yeah I just installed VLC, removed my codec pack and everything is playing fine here so it looks like VLC is ok. I'll ask around and see if anyone I know has had similiar problems. Just to confirm, are you using 32 or 64 bit win 7 and an ati or nvidia gfx card?

It is supposed to be making use of your ram, this is perfectly normal and as you say everything runs great. My advice is not to worry about ram usage and let the OS take care of things for you ;)

Maybe VLC's own codec isn't fully happy with win7?

I think it's important to remember that this is a beta ( albeit a very stable/polished one ) and the WEI isn't really a critical function ;)

Have you installed any 3rd party codecs? I recommend the Combined Community Codec Pack ;)
