Windows 8 The Desktop folder is not backed up by File History

File History used to work, I messed around with it and it won't work. 2 evenings wasted. Now I'm using GoodSync just to synchronise Desktop files. It's easy as 2 browse jobs and won't break!. Cheers.

Windows 8 The Desktop folder is not backed up by File History

Thanks for your comments, appreciated. The only things I want to back up are files on my 'Desktop' as that is where I save all my working docs. I've been using True Image on portable USB for image backups since 'Ghost'...gave up the ghost, but I've (up till now) found built-in File History...

Windows 8 The Desktop folder is not backed up by File History

Hi. I've had no luck in Win10 forum so I'm asking here as the answer is probably the same... File History does not backup Desktop or any files on Desktop. Can somebody suggest why this should be? I have turned File History off, turned it back on, reset the backup drive and the only folder to...

Windows 7 USB flash drives are not accessible using user account with admin status

Problem solved: There is a program called HP Client Security and it is accessed from the taskbar. Among other things, under 'Devices', it prevents anyone walking up to the machine, plugging in a USB drive and hacking the data on the machine - if only the seller had told the buyer! This is...

Windows 7 USB flash drives are not accessible using user account with admin status

OK, problem solved. HP Client Security However, the problem was some 'bloatware' that came with the HP machine. Actually, it might not be fair to call it bloatware because it does have a purpose. There is a program called HP Client Security and it is accessed from the taskbar. Among other...

Windows 7 USB flash drives are not accessible using user account with admin status

Thanks Trouble. Yes, I checked the similar settings in the User Configuration first and all is "Not Configured". It will be a while before I can check... 1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR 2) Create a new User account but I'll keep you informed either way.

Windows 7 USB flash drives are not accessible using user account with admin status

Pauli, The "Take Ownership" entry (added via "InstallTakeOwnership.reg") in the right-click context menu only appears for Folders. It does not appear on drives whether FAT or NTFS presumably because they are not Folders..

Windows 7 USB flash drives are not accessible using user account with admin status

Thanks Pauli. Did you see that I have posted the following in the OP?... "The "Everyone" group has Full Share permissions (there is no Security tab presumably because the USB flash drive is Fat not NTFS)." ? How shall I make the Security tab appear?

Windows 7 USB flash drives are not accessible using user account with admin status

My friend has a fairly new stand-alone (not network or domain) Windows 7 Professional desktop PC with MS Security Essentials as protection. Using a Win7Pro User account which has administrative privileges, when attempting to access any USB flash drive (tried using a selection of flash drives)...

Windows 8 Strange characters in file Properties instead of time stamp

Hello. I am using a Dell laptop with Windows 8 Home. The file Properties show strange symbol-type characters where there should be numbers etc. See Screenshot... This character problem has existed for a while, more than 6 months I guess. 1) Antivirus scans are clean. 2) All Region and...
