Definitely a boot issue... Thanks ickymay, I'm working my way through some of those options. In order of appearance: 1. restart didn't help; 2. Checked BIOS boot order, and my drive is recognized; 3. Win7 system repair/restore was able to identify a "startup" issue, but couldn't resolve it...
