I did try the troubleshooter but what I finally figured out was the search provider that was being used as "default" was not IE. When I made IE the default, I suddenly could search for files again.

I would love to try your solution. But I don't know what it was. No solutions are given.

I am one of the few who Hates W7! Probably it is great for technie people but for little old lady's sitting at home using computer for fun, it is horrible. My home page is My.MSN which one can customize with the news modules, local weather, etc. I have to reset everything at least twice a day...
