FINALLY!! The problem has been cracked and after a year I have Aero goodness. I've restarted my computer twice, shut down once and its still here, none of that dull grey task bar I have to wake up to anymore! The culprit was a program called gamerOSD which was embedded within my graphics card...

Yeah I've just recently tried taking my graphics card out and putting it back in. Its in the correct pci x16 slot which my manual states (I've tried it in both now), and all power connections are connected properly. My psu has defiantly got enough power to run this card and probably another...

I'm thinking this must be a ram issue as after every reboot from installing my new graphics card drivers and whilst Aero is working, Aero seems to of been switched off. This time I managed to update my bios through @bios and install my graphics card drivers ok but theres still the Aero issue...

I'll have to try the mem test on each stick, for some reason I get a strange loud beep every now and then and everything seems to freeze, but then goes back to normal, could this be an indication of a memory problem?

Everything is running at stock, I haven't tried overclocking or messing with any of the settings in the bios. I ran mem test and my ram seems to be fine, all my temps are fine running at 28-30c. Its strange that after I updated the bios I had problems with install the graphics card drivers...

Yep I've got the bios back to how it was before flashing. It seems the only instance when aero gets deactivated is upon restarting my computer. Then when I do the experience test I get a 6.0 on my graphics card, whereas if I perform the test while aero is active just after I have installed the...

I managed to get @bios to update my bios although I had to manually do this as none of the automatic features worked. On booting the first time after being asked to restart my computer, I was prompted with a post error with profile 1.1 selected, but after hitting enter everything seemed to boot...

I've tried running it with single sticks of ram, and running mem test and there doesnt seem to be a problem. I haven't checked whether my system bios is the latest version, can you update the bios within the bios itself?

Thanks for the reply, I ran the test again and windows couldn't find a problem, I looked at the details and it says no issues were found. I guess it must be some type of hardware conflict, none of the drivers I've installed seem to do anything so I'm not really sure on what to do. :frown:

Well I've got the latest driver download from ATI : Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM I'm running Windows 7 64bit as well, thanks for the replies guys.

Should my card be scoring higher for a Asus ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5? At the end of the day can't aero run on a much lower scoring system?

Defiantly not a performance problem, my scores are: Processor: 7.5 Memory: 7.8 Graphics: 6.0 Gaming Graphics: 6.0 Primary Hard Disk: 5.9 This is what I could find: I've tried before rolling back to the drivers off my CD which came with my gfx card but no effect.
