I removed Avast and switched to NOD32 (ESET Smart Security) and my browser has been working fine ever since. NOD32 ESET Smart Security isn't free but in my view is worth buying. I'm using the 30 day trial version but will buy a licence when the trial ends. HTH.

Since removing Avast my browser has been ok. Those of you who are running Avast and having problems should read this thread on the Avast forum Web Shield causes all browsers to stop working Hope that helps.
