After some research, it seems I cannot avoid changing the MOBO. The Maximus VII HERO is based on socket LGA1150 and Windows 11 requires at least socket LGA1151. See there.

I have a very similar configuration: same processor, MOBO is Asus Maximus VII HERO, and, probably not relevant, graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER. Based on the above, I assume it's hardware update time if I want to move to Windows 11. Can I get away with updating just the proc, or...
