Mails and system recovery tools are way too different. If your needs are just the emails, better not to touch a data recovery tool for recovering them. Okay, now that you have located the exact location of the old OST file. Use one of the tools, I mentioned to recover the mails from that location.

Neemobeer says it right, the mail file can be extracted easily from Control Panel>Mail. The OST file contains all your emails with the right details of the mail folders. If that doesn't work, you shall look out for some tools that could extract the OST files.
