    Windows 7 Temporary Freezing - Non-typical

I'm not sure if we're seeing the same thing, but i've had a freezing problem on every computer i've installed 7 on. Here are a few things i've noticed, however. It seems to only happen if i've left my computer on for a long time (days.. weeks.. whatever). It may be related to some piece of...

    Windows 7 Build 7229 x-64 install

Most of the time you won't have issues, but that's not really why it's suggested. By the way, I would never suggest doing a clean install for every interim build. If you have problems after an upgrade, then i'd suggest doing a clean install. However, for the final, releaed version, a clean...

Windows 7 What I miss from xp

There actually is a task bar across the top, below the address bar. It includes some common tasks like "New Folder", "Burn", etc.. there is also an Organize drop down that includes commands like Copy, Rename, Delete.. etc.. I don't recall Explorer ever having a customizable menu bar. In fact...

Windows 7 Will Windows 7 Full version be better than the Beta

Well, to be honest, I appreciate official information over hearsay on a board. But that's just me.

Windows 7 For all those who may be confused...

To clarify. If you're using 7100 and everything works fine for you, there is no real need to get a later build as later builds won't hold any new features. However, if you're suffering from a bug or glitch that's really annoying, a later build may fix the issue (it did for me. 7201 has been...

Windows 7 Windows 7 to be shipped in Europe sans IE

I predict that, like the "N" version that ships without media player, the "E' version will not be used by anyone.

Windows 7 Am I missing something?

Most people never upgrade. When their old computer breaks or gets too slow for them, they buy a new computer and it comes with whatever the latest OS is. I think something less than 5% of people ever upgrade their OS. However, Windows comes in an upgrade version that is significantly cheaper...

    Windows 7 Build 7229 x-64 install

I stand corrected then. I was told this didn't allow upgrades, and that made sense given that it was an OEM version. Odd.

Windows 7 Am I missing something?

This is simply not true. Extended support is not paid support. It just means there will be no new features added to it (no new service packs, for instance). More than likely, new versions of things like the .NET framework and what not will slowly drop support also. There will be security...

Windows 7 What I miss from xp

Yeah, I 'm not sure why Microsoft got rid of that in Vista. After all, they made such a big deal of it in XP. I guess their usability studies must have shown that either people didn't like it overall, or it didn't do the job they thought it would. No. This feature is not there. There are...

    Windows 7 Build 7229 x-64 install

Be aware that 7229 is configured for OEM distribution, which means it doesn't support upgrading from an existing version (be it vista or 7). Also, you may have trouble upgrading it to a later version. This means you have to do a clean install and reinstall all your apps.

Windows 7 Is there a way to create symlinks?

There's also the ability to mount other partitions within folders, similar to the Linux mount command. If you go into Disk Management, you can right click on a partition, choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths", click the Add or Change button, and "Mount in the following empty NTFS folder", then...

Windows 7 Big question about reloading a back up with win 7

Backups System backups are designed to restore the computer to the state it was in when you backed up, on the same computer. It's possible to restore to a different computer if the hardware is not too different (for instance an older XP system won't work on a computer with SATA drives without...

Windows 7 How much do you think all versions of windows 7 will cost

Prices will likely be similar to Vista. And in the UK, yes, it was 300 pounds. That's the retail price, though. Nobody ever pays that.

Windows 7 7 Installer problems and slow loading

This sounds like the SATA bug. This bug affects if you install Windows 7 to any disk other than SATA0, but it only seems to happen on certain chipsets (I don't know which ones). If you can, install it to a partition on your primary hard disk.
