    Windows 7 toggle window size

This may be a stupid question, but if I don't ask, I remain stupid. I am using Lightroom 4 (but I don't think that point is relevant), and somehow, my window has become full screen and I don't even see the 3 boxes in the upper right. How do I get back to the standard appearance? This is not true...

    Windows 7 character map

Thanks for condensing the file....I do NOT have an OEM OS. It is a DVD with MS logo, etc

    Windows 7 character map

I am not ready to do a big re-install yet for just the character map problem. Of interest is that I found a site where I could download the file, dis so and then replaced the one in the system32 directory and it didn't make any difference. I got the same error. That is too strange. Thanks for...

    Windows 7 character map

OK...I uninstalled the KB, rebooted, then SFC, then did the findstr as suggested by the MS site you pointed to. Attached are the results. There seem to be a very large number of corrupt files that Windows cannot fix. The error always seems to a "hash mismatch". Is there anyway to tell...

    Windows 7 character map

Thanks for all your help...attached is the part of the CBS.log file that I think you refer to. Can you make anything out of it? I will look at that MS site...at least the name is promising....

    Windows 7 character map

Thanks for the suggestions... MBAM found no problems Running as administrator... sfc /scannow gave the message..."Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them." It gave a long log file that was incomprehensible!! I am running the 64 bitWin 7 Pro...

    Windows 7 character map

I am trying to run the "character map" program that is a standard part of Windows. I get an error..."C:\windows\system32\GetUName.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error". Is there a safe place to download a new copy of the dll and once downloaded, how do I replace...

Windows 7 IE 8 (32 bit) no longer working

Thank you for the suggestions. I ran the SFC program and found no errors or problems. I tried to find the IE8 (32 bit) program, but it would never let me get there and kept me jumping to IE9, so I bit the bullet and installed IE9. Now I have the same problem with IE9. The 64 bit version works...

Windows 7 IE 8 (32 bit) no longer working

I am running Win 7 Pro SP1, but this problem started before I upgraded to SP1. In my start menu, 64 bit IE8 opens and works just fine, but the 32 bit version does NOT run. Also, the Windows update choice on my menu does not run (Does that require the 32 bit version?). When I try to connect to...

Windows 7 Windows Live Mail problem

Actually 2 main problems.... 1) How to import messages from Thunderbird. I know, I know...this is not a Windows or a Microsoft problem, but I though I'd ask anyway. 2) I have Adobe Reader installed AND it is associated with .PDF, but when a PDF attachment comes into Windows Live Mail, I get a...

Windows 7 desktop.ini on the desktop

That's interesting. So you are saying that Win7 doesn't even need those 'ini' files?

Windows 7 desktop.ini on the desktop

Thanks for clearing this up. I knew most of what you said in your very thorough explanation. I was hoping there was a way to just be able to turn them off in the visible desktop. Your explanation told me that this behavior is different from prior versions and that's what got me. Thanks again

Windows 7 desktop.ini on the desktop

When I see the icons on my desktop, I have 2 'desktop.ini' files. I see that one is from my main user and another from the 'public' user. Is there anyway to tell Win7 NOT to show the desktop.ini files at all on the actual desktop? I see that it is a 'hidden' file, but that doesn't seem to make...

    Windows 7 port 80 problem

I am using Win 7 x64 and have Wampserver installed and working. If I install SQL Server 2008, how do I make sure that I will be able to go back and forth between IIS and Apache. I was able to do this in XP, but how will it work in Win7? Has anyone done this and gotten them to coexist peacefully?
