Well, after doing another video card swap, I got my overall score to go up. However, it wasn't without any sacrifices. On the bright side, I can actually play games at slightly higher detail settings or get a better frame rate with lower settings. At least I understand that a 4350 isn't...
2x for Beta (used Beta until early-March on the first run and then went back to it the week before I went back to school) 2x for RC (I installed it the first time after it released, used it until I ended up getting a virus last Thursday, and reinstalled it)
I don't know if this has been posted already but I just found out that Neverwinter Nights 2 does not work straight up in Build 7100. It'll give an error message about not being able to detect your video card. There is a workaround (you have to download a .dll file or two) or I've heard people...
Because I'm so excited that I finally got myself a new video card, I'll repost my specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.9 Ghz "Brisbane" Video: Diamond ATI Radeon HD 4350 512 MB Monitor: 19" Viewsonic VX1935wm (1440x900 max res.) RAM: 4 GB Kingston DDR2...
I apologize if this is a little off-topic but I think it's the same thing in Vista. My brother has an ATI Radeon HD4800 1GB and 6GB of RAM and Vista reports that he has 4 GB (I think) of video memory. Also, "Can You Run It" can give some pretty awesome frequency measurements for multi-core...
You could probably try to go into the Device Manager and install/update the driver using the disc (Windows should be able to find the driver from the disc and load it).
I had the same exact video card except in PCI-E format. Catalyst 9.3 won't work at all with that card. I think up to 9.1 or 9.2 works. If you're looking to do widescreen resolution, you'll be S.O.L. since that went out the window with RC (you'll need a Radeon HD or Geforce for that to happen).
I've edited my post to clarify what I meant by "boot". Like I said, I really don't pay as much attention to the whole boot process since I do a couple other things as the POST goes through. That's why I said that I count the "Starting Windows" to desktop with full functionality.
My computer right now boots at about 15 seconds (from "Starting Windows" to desktop). The logoff takes (whether I reboot or shut down) 10 seconds (from "Logging Off" to full system shutdown). Gigabyte GA-M55plus S3G rev 2.1 AMD Athlon X2 5600+ 2.9 Ghz "Brisbane" 4GB Kingston DDR2 800 RAM 512MB...
If you don't feel safe trying out Windows 7's included ISO burning software, you could use PowerISO (for games and other software) or ImgBurn (for movies and software as well).
If it comes out in December, it'll be my Christmas present (hopefully). It would be nice if it came out by Oct. 23rd since my b-day is just a week before and it'd be a great present. In any case, I hope to have a fairly mainstream machine by the time I get 7.
