Unpin the Thunderbird icon from the taskbar, then run Thunderbird from the Start Menu and pin the resulting Thunderbird icon to the taskbar. I had this happen to both Firefox and Thunderbird.
This is happening with Firefox also. I've not had the problem before so it's quite a recent thing for me, perhaps during the last couple of weeks. It doesn't happen all the time and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.
Had a quick look at Argos who will redeem Nectar points. Their cheapest netbook is around £150, cheapest laptop around £250 and cheapest external dvd drive about £50.
I don't think it's a matter of "Is it good or bad?" but whether you like it or not, whether it suits your way of working. Personally I think I'll stick with Windows 7. I've played around with the pre-release versions of Windows 8 but found that I don't like it very much. I know from these forums...
Well I've tried this trick for booting to Desktop but it's still taking over 10 seconds to switch out of the Start page. It's much quicker just to press the Desktop button on the Start page. Perhaps my desktop PC will be quicker. When the new release of Windows 8 Preview becomes available in...
Hi Drew ..... I've abandoned the virtual Windows 8 installation and set up a dual boot on my laptop. I'll try it out on there. As there is a new release coming up soon I won't do too much on the current installation.
Thanks Randy. Takes about 14 seconds to automatically move to Desktop. Maybe it's slow cos I'm running Win8 in a virtual environment with very little RAM allocated to it. Hopefully Win8 will be more configurable when the commercial version is out.
Hi Drew ..... I certainly don't want to argue about this and I had hoped that my last reply would be seen to be a little humorous. We all have our own ways of working and our own preferences and I hope that I'm open to new ideas. Sorry to bring up the Metro thing (there I go again :devilish:) as...
Interesting idea Drew but I must say that it seems a whole lot less bother just using the traditional "typing a password" method :) but perhaps that is only so on a desktop computer. But, then, the whole Metro thing seems a nuisance to me; am I without hope? :devilish:
Shucks Vic  I use Firefox and Thunderbird and noticed this peculiarity with the pinned icons so I did some Google searches and came across the answer. Must be something about these latest versions of the software.
vev46 this seems to be a known "fault". See here Link Removed - Invalid URL . Just unpin the unused taskbar icon for Firefox or Thunderbird and then pin the opened icon to the taskbar. After that it doesn't seem to duplicate the icon.
