Windows 7 Windows Update stopped working

The only thing on here besides the watermark removal script are: CCcleaner, Glary Utilities and Auslogics Disc Deframenter. Everything worked, including Windows Update, until I installed the watermark removal script. It is no mystery what borked Windows Update, now that I realise that. ;)

Windows 7 Windows Update stopped working

Don't know what you mean by "installer fix." Anyway, the problem is likely a result of my using a script to rid the desktop of the watermark. There is an undo procedure for that; I'll likely just run W7 as is for a while (planning on putting a linux distro on this particular hard drive...

Windows 7 Windows 7's final name is...

"Vista is down because it has been an utter failure and Steve Balmer even said that it was a failure." LOL.. well, it sure is not a failure on any of our machines. They want to sell W7. Vista is fine and will remain on our computers for as long as it is supported, although we will have at...

Windows 7 Windows Update stopped working

80070002 error code. There is a good workaround described in troubleshooting that error code, but it does not solve the problem. There is also a good page at Microsoft with instructions on working around the problems, but those instructions do not solve the problem. I searched here and...

Windows 7 Windows 7's final name is...

"..brought down Vista.." ?? Vista is down? Could somebody please outline what that means? We can't seem to find much to complain about the Vista OS on our company or home machines, PCs and laptops. Sometimes I think this Windows 7 beta and final release schema is more about seizing on...

Windows 7 What browser are you using?

I never could get plugins to work in Opera. IE is still just a big, clunky mess after all these years. Sometimes I get the feeling that Microsoft browser developers are old baby boomers trying to make IE the software version of one of these: Link Removed due to 404 Error About 4 thousand...

Windows 7 What browser are you using?

Firefox has no "text scrambling" as IE 8 (and 7) does. By scrambling I mean mushed words that align themselves correctly if the page is scrolled up or down over the words a couple of times. We have three machines here all with different graphics chips and we get the same junky look in IE on...

    Downadup/Conficker worm infection.Are you safe?

Never had a virus (that I know of) from Windows 95 days and on. The fear of getting one, though, drove me to fool around with various linux distros off and on. Now there are viruses (viri?) and worms that can wreck linux too. Might as well stick with Windows I guess.

    Windows 7 Windows 7 Defragmenter

Auslogics makes a great defragmenter. That's what I use in Vista and had on XP. But the Windows 7 defragmenter seems to be just as good and almost as fast as Auslogics. I did notice that the Windows 7 "disc cleanup" utility is just as bad as Vista's and XP's. So I went with CCcleaner again...

    Windows 7 Windows 7 Defragmenter

Several hours? I don't think I've ever seen more than 20 or 30 minutes of defragmenting on any machine we've had here since Windows 95, and we've always had the largest hard drives we could find. Sounds like a cpu issue more than a defragmenter issue; slow cpu=slow programs, including...

Windows 7 What browser are you using?

"Other" might work, but your explanation helps too. ;) My poll is basically meant to ask about web browsing in particular; I could have made that more clear I guess. As in, "What web browser to you use for browsing the web?" :D

Windows 7 What browser are you using?

What web browser are you using with W7? - Internet Explorer 8 - Mozolla Firefox - Other The Internet Explorer browser just seems a bit slower than Firefox, plus less intuitive. I also noticed that it scrambles the look of fonts on some websites no matter the font size settings I use. So...

    Windows 7 Realtek 8187b driver

I apologize for not following up in this thread last week; blackstripes provided the info that I ended up using (getting the driver from my laptop manufacturer's website, Toshiba). I was successful using that method. Thank you very much, blackstripes! Thank you, too, Computer Geek, for...

Windows 7 'Windows 7 will be vista but a lot better'

As soon as I opened the box, plugged in the machine and fired up the OS it set up by itself, took about 35 minutes, and did an update. It went online and ran an update (this was last April when I bought the Satellite A205-5809. After that I downloaded and installed my favorite programs I'd...

Windows 7 Are you using Windows 7 Beta 1 as your main Operating System ?

Same thing I've been doing for years: spare hard drives, different OS on each one. Default, "working" OS is Vista Premium, which came installed as OEM. It is beautiful, fast and solid (as I posted in another topic, I cannot understand the "Vista is a failure" attitude some people and even...
