Windows 7 Acer laptop - very choppy performance

Hi, Not sure if this is quite the right sub-forum, but none of the others quite fit the bill either. Anyway, I had great success with this forum (and Elmer in particular) in diagnosing and helping to fix the problem with my desktop. I'm now going for the double whammy and hoping for similar...

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but it's possible that I'm finally BSOD free. No crashes last night, and none again today - so completely stable since I flashed the BIOS. I'll give it another couple of days before I start dancing on the table, but it looks like your advice might have...

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

Okay, just had some small measure of success. I tried the MSI update utility again, which detects your BIOS and checks for a newer version. This time it managed to update my BIOS successfully. The slightly less good news is that I had a Checksum error on reboot, but I press the option to load...

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

Yes I removed AVG after that last crash. I tried to update the BIOS using MSI's updater tool 'Live Update'. It downloads the new BIOS fine, but stops working when I tell it to use it (and I've tried lots of times). I found the file it downloaded manually, but the exe file seems to do nothing...

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

My helpful IT guru friend moved to Denmark, unhelpfully. Seems I'm a bit stuck.

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

I've had a further thought. I may be wrong, but I think the crashing problem started after I installed my current graphics card. The old one pretty much blew up whilst gaming, but I don't think the system used to crash at that point. Not sure if that helps, but thought I'd mention it.

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

Thanks again for this Elmer. Would you recommend I take the PC to a specialist to get the BIOS upgraded? I'm worried about completely destroying it if I try myself...

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

I downloaded the MSI 'Live Update' programme to update the BIOS. It scanned my system, and showed me the BIOS update I needed. Downloaded it fine, but then the programme stops working each time I try to go to the next step. And when I find the BIOS update files it downloaded, the executable...

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

Sorry to be so dense, but I can't see how to adjust RAM timings in my BIOS - I've been through all the possible settings and I can't see it. Would you recommend updating my BIOS to the newer version?

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

I uninstalled AVG. By the way, I got this report from Windows, which I'm sure is very much advice for beginners, but I'm posting it here in case it's useful: "Microsoft is unable to determine the exact cause of this error. However, this problem was most likely caused by an error in your...

Windows 7 Persistent BSOD and CTD problem

Thanks for the response Elmer. I updated the driver, but had another BSOD within 10 mins unfortunately. I can uninstall AVG, but I was getting these issues even in the two weeks when I didn't have it installed, after deleting everything and upgrading to Windows 7. I've attached the new dump...
