Microsoft today announced the availability of so-called "convenience rollups" for Windows 7 SP1.
I wonder whether there is any connection between this "Rollup" and the recent problems?

Interesting . . . other than programs that report voltage levels, fan speeds, temperatures, HDD SMART data (Link Removed) and RAM (Memtest86) I wasn't aware of such tools, where might I find details? Personally, beyond this I just swap components.
Thanks for those suggestions. I suspect that Resetting and re-registering the Windows Update Components is my best next step.

Why exactly would it be helpful if I posted my hardware specs?
I am aware of and use Speccy. I also use Belarc Advisor but I really don't think that this is a hardware problem.

Hi, ussnorway, I am not sure how exactly anything more than my notes in the post above yours would help?. The process displays a MsgBox saying it is "repairing the problem" it then gets to the end and displays another MsgBox saying that the process was unsuccessful

I am trying to resolve a PC problem for a relative. He is running Windows 7 and MS Office 2010. Whenever he fires up Outlook he gets a MsgBox advising him that it is "Configuring Microsoft Office 2010".
If he allows it to run to completion it reboots the PC but reappears when he opens Outlook...
