it was an aio activated disc i aquired from a techy friend , has worked fine on 3/4 machines thats what i cant understand

tried twice now , once to upgrade once to clean install but both time after completing pc reoots to black screen with a cursor , nothing else, cant type cant do a thing. ive looked in the recovery menu and the c/ has got windows 7 installed but cant access it. any ideas cause its lost me??
