Thanks to everyone who replied. With what cybercore has said I will now go back to dl'ing files to a temp folder.... scan then then execute the installer. As for defense... I use Comodo Internet Security (Free version)... it seems to work well enough Thanks again :)

Hi, thanks for the reply thats the point... I am not downloading the software to my hdd anymore... I am simply running it from the prompt... So my question was... does the antivirus program still scan it during dl before it runs ? I assume windows has to "temp" store the program" so does the...

Just a quick question for all you techies out there. I have always in the past downloaded software to my hard disk and then run them from there. I then end up with scattered directories of various types with all sorts of stuff that in 6 months time... due to obscure file names I have no idea...

What Media Player if your using a 64 bit OS also check out the 64 bit version of media player classic... seems to work OK

Vista just got a bad rap from day 1. You hear "supposed" techies saying it uses too many resources... How many actual day to day users look at the cpu usage or how much memory has been used. I never did. I loved vista but I like Win 7 better it is a step forward.

Only problem with doing this is when your router decides to give each computer on your network a diff ip than that in the host file. Ok so now we get into making sure your router doesn't do that, but that's for a diff thread I believe.

I use Foobar for mp3 playback... I just like the interface and usually end up using WMP as the new layout in Win 7 is superb. I have also used vlc, km player, itunes, wmp classic.... lol I like to fiddle with things.... so no one choice I am afraid
