How do you know it has 12 gigs installed , did you bulid it ? Did it indeed come with 12 gigs installed? Does the motherboard support 12 gigs?

Don`t install an update until you know what it is and only if you need it. I have mine set to inform me but never to download or install unless I say so.

You need to do a startup repair, but you say you don`t have the discs. Did the pc come with a recovery partition?

Try hooking it straight to the modem and see what happens.

Why would you want to install Home Basic ???? Do not attempt anything until you`ve read up and are absolutely positive you know what your doing. I would highly recommend leaving it alone.

You can not downgrade it, although you could actually call it that. You have to install Windows 7 32 bit.
