A gaming PC and controller sit beside a monitor showing winged heroes in a fantastical floating city.
Aion 2’s global release is a Windows PC launch, not a PS5 or Xbox release. NC announced that the game went live on October 5, 2026, and its launch FAQ limits official platform support to Windows PC through Steam and PURPLE. For anyone planning a console session, the distinction matters: a future console project is not a console client you can download today.

What is actually confirmed for consoles?

In Wccftech’s Gamescom interview, published September 7, 2026, Namjoon Kim said NC was preparing a console launch, with the global launch taking priority. He did not identify a console platform or provide a release window. That confirms preparation—not a dated PS5, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch announcement.

The platform picture therefore needs two separate columns: what players can use now, and what developers have discussed for later.

Platform or serviceConfirmed position
Global Windows PC serviceOfficially supported through Steam and PURPLE
PlayStation 5Not named in the cited console statement
XboxNot named in the cited console statement
Nintendo SwitchNot named in the cited console statement
Future console releaseIn preparation, intended to follow the global PC launch; no window supplied

NC’s launch FAQ establishes the Windows support boundary; Wccftech’s interview establishes the narrower, undated console commitment. Neither should be stretched into a platform-specific release promise.

Cross-play is unlikely—but not decided

Kim told Wccftech that PC-console cross-play probably would not be supported, citing differences in gameplay, usage, and launch timing. Crucially, he also said the team had not made a clear decision. Unlikely is not the same as canceled.

The interview also leaves cross-progression and purchase transfers unanswered. His suggestion that the services could operate separately does not establish whether a future console player could reuse an account, character, or entitlement.

For planning purposes, treat these as separate questions:

  • Can PC and console players play together?
  • Can the same character move between platforms?
  • Will purchases or membership benefits transfer?

Do not build a group’s platform choice around an assumed “yes.”

The regional mobile release is a different service

NCSOFT’s November 19, 2025 announcement confirms that Aion 2 launched in Korea and Taiwan on both PC and mobile. That earlier regional availability does not establish global mobile support.

There is also a concrete progression boundary: NC’s global launch FAQ says Korean and Taiwanese progress does not carry into the global version. Starting in that regional service is therefore not a way to bank progress for the global launch.

Controllers and handhelds are not console announcements

NC’s FAQ says Aion 2 is playable with a controller but not officially supported for controller use. It similarly allows that other devices or platforms may be playable while limiting official support to Windows PC through Steam and PURPLE. That is not a Steam Deck support commitment or a native console release.

The practical advice is simple: if controller-only play is essential, establish that the current experience meets your needs before committing substantial time. A gamepad connection is not a guarantee of a couch-ready interface.

Steam versus PURPLE: one useful account caveat

NC says Steam and PURPLE players share servers and receive the same in-game content. However, accessing the same character and progress through both launchers requires account linking; playing solely through Steam does not.

That is the useful distinction for Windows players: launcher choice does not divide the community into separate Steam and PURPLE populations, but switching launchers should not be confused with automatically sharing an existing character.

For console players, patience remains the sensible position. Wait for an announcement that names the hardware, supplies a release window, and explains account compatibility. Until then, “console support later” is a development direction—not a date to mark on the calendar.
