What Remedy announced
Remedy posted the update notice on October 21, 2026. It says that on PC, the game's FSR support was updated to FSR 4.1. It also says the HDR toggle was fixed so it "shows as intended with compatible displays." Remedy listed these version numbers:
- PlayStation 5: 1.200.011
- Xbox Series: 1.2.0.11
- PC: 1.2.11
Instant Gaming's news site describes the patch as free. It adds that "other minor bugs" were fixed, but neither the announcement nor that report says what they were.
One caveat: Remedy's official update-notes page still shows the August 18, 2026 patch (1.2.10) as its latest entry. The 1.2.11 details therefore come from Remedy's social post as quoted by outlets, not from a published patch-note entry.
PC: what FSR 4.1 means
Remedy's August patch, 1.2.10, introduced FSR 4 on PC. Those notes say FSR 4 turned on automatically on supported GPUs when FSR Super Resolution was selected. FSR Frame Generation arrived as a separate graphics-settings option on supported GPUs. The same patch moved Opacity Micromaps and Shader Execution Reordering to the Agility SDK, so those features can work across multiple GPU vendors.
The October update moves that FSR 4 integration up to 4.1. Remedy hasn't published frame-rate figures, image-quality comparisons or a game-specific GPU list. Remedy also hasn't said whether the 1.2.11 selection behaviour matches August's automatic enabling. Treat any performance gain as unproven until independent testing appears.
Which AMD hardware can use it
AMD's own material gives the hardware picture:
- FSR 4 first launched exclusively on Radeon RX 9000 Series GPUs in 2025.
- In June 2026, AMD delivered FSR Upscaling 4.1 for Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs (Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2, released June 22 — a month ahead of AMD's own July target).
- The newest expansion is part of the Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 driver. It extends FSR 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 Series, Ryzen AI 9 processors, Ryzen AI Max processors, select Ryzen Z2 processors and Xbox consoles.
- AMD's SDK documentation lists Radeon RX 9000 and 7000 Series discrete GPUs for FSR Upscaling 4.1.1, with Shader Model 6.6 required.
Support is expanding quickly, and a game's in-game implementation can differ from what a driver override offers. Remedy hasn't said which GPUs this particular patch covers. I couldn't confirm whether the RX 6000 and APU expansion applies to Alan Wake 2's built-in FSR 4.1. Before you count on it, check the following:
- Update to the latest Adrenalin driver.
- Install the 1.2.11 PC update through your game launcher.
- Open the graphics settings and select FSR Super Resolution.
- Check whether Frame Generation is offered for your card.
Consoles: HDR fix only
The console side is narrower. Remedy lists the update for PS5 and Xbox Series, but the only console-facing change it describes is the HDR toggle fix. It doesn't name affected console models, display brands or the exact earlier symptom. It also doesn't claim any rendering or upscaling change on consoles.
So the FSR 4.1 upgrade is a PC change. The announcement doesn't say whether Xbox Series consoles will get anything similar for this game. AMD has said FSR 4.1 is coming to Xbox consoles, but nothing in Remedy's notice ties that to this patch.
The bottom line
- PC players on AMD hardware: update, then check your settings and drivers. Expect an upscaler refresh, not a promised speed boost.
- Console players with HDR displays: the toggle should now behave correctly. Beyond that, expect no visual changes.
- Everyone: the version numbers above are the quickest way to confirm you have the patch.
Remedy's patch notes will probably be updated, and that should give the full list of minor fixes.
Correction (October 22, 2026): This article originally said AMD delivered FSR Upscaling 4.1 for Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs in July 2026. It shipped on June 22, 2026 via the Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 driver, a month ahead of AMD's stated July target.
