There's also a disagreement about the driver's certification status. Neowin, which reported the release first, called 26.10.1 an optional driver that isn't WHQL-certified. VideoCardz's driver listing labels the same build as a AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 26.10.1 driver WHQL download. The brief prepared from AMD's own support pages also says AMD's product pages show 26.10.1 as "WHQL (Recommended)." We couldn't load AMD's release-notes page directly while preparing this report, so the best summary is this: the evidence favors WHQL certification, and the "optional" label looks like an error in the early coverage.
What's new in Adrenalin 26.10.1
New game support
Three titles get official support:
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (base game)
- FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE
- STAR WARS: Galactic Racer
Neowin reports that Modern Warfare 4 and FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE launch within days and that Galactic Racer came out a couple of weeks ago. We couldn't confirm those dates independently, and a driver's release notes describe support, not release schedules. As is usual for game-ready drivers, AMD hasn't published performance claims for any of the three games.
This isn't AMD's first Modern Warfare 4 driver. The 26.8.1 release notes listed Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 Open Beta Early Access. The 26.9.2 optional driver then covered Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 campaign early access, along with Gears of War: E-Day and Valor Mortis. Version 26.10.1 completes that run: beta, then campaign early access, and now the base game.
FSR Upscaling 4.1 reaches older and mobile hardware
Neowin didn't mention this feature, but it's likely the most important change in the release for many owners. According to the release highlights reproduced by VideoCardz, AMD has added AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1 support for: AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series Graphics products, AMD Ryzen AI Max 300 Series processors, AMD Ryzen AI Max 400 Series processors, AMD Ryzen AI 9 300 Series processors, AMD Ryzen AI 9 400 Series processors.
RX 6000 owners have watched newer machine-learning-based upscaling features go to RDNA 4 cards first, so this matters to a large group of players. The same driver page also includes a separate VideoCardz headline: AMD finally confirms Vulkan support for FSR 4. That suggests a busy day for AMD's upscaling plans. These release notes don't say how image quality or performance on RX 6000 compares with RX 9000-series cards, and we won't guess.
The single bug fix
The changelog lists one fix: Stuttering may be observed while playing the Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 on Radeon™ RX 6000 series graphics products and above. If you played the campaign early access on 26.9.2 and noticed hitching, this is the release meant to fix it.
Section summary: Expect three newly supported games, FSR 4.1 on RX 6000 and recent Ryzen AI chips, and a Modern Warfare 4 stutter fix for RX 6000 and newer cards.
The known issues list
AMD carries over a long list of unresolved problems, and several apply only to specific hardware. Here's what's affected and whether AMD offers a workaround:
| Game / scenario | Affected hardware | Symptom | AMD workaround |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced | RX 7000 series | Intermittent crash or driver timeout | None listed |
| War Thunder | RX 5000 series | Intermittent driver timeout | Stay on Adrenalin 26.9.1 |
| Valor Mortis | RX 7600 series | Intermittent system shutdown | None listed |
| Valor Mortis | RX 7000 series | Intermittent driver timeout | None listed |
| FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE | Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series | Intermittent system shutdown | None listed |
| Death Stranding 2: On the Beach | RX 9000 series | Hang with AMD FSR enabled | Disable AMD FSR |
| Cyberpunk 2077 | Some RX 9000 series | Crash/timeout with FSR Upscaling, Anti-Lag and in-game frame gen during video playback on a second display | Disable in-game frame generation |
| Fallout 76 | Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series | Black screen on launch | None listed |
| Overlays (e.g. Xbox Game Bar) | Radeon graphics | Crash/timeout when toggling other overlays with Performance Metrics Overlay on | Temporarily disable Performance Metrics Overlay |
| In-game FSR Frame Generation | RX 9000 series | System crash/hang when switching apps or toggling overlays | Enable V-Sync in game |
| AI Bundle install | Regions with limited HuggingFace/GitHub access | Installation failure | None listed |
| Windows 10 systems | General | Smart Access Memory may be disabled after install | None listed |
Some of these need extra comment.
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is listed as supported and also has an open issue. AMD warns that intermittent system shutdown may be observed while playing FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE on Ryzen™ AI MAX PRO 400 Series processors. This affects one specific platform. It isn't a warning for Radeon or Ryzen AI owners in general. Still, a full system shutdown is far worse than a game crash. If you own one of those PRO-class machines, set your expectations accordingly.
The overlay issue affects many people. Xbox Game Bar is built into Windows, so a large number of users could run into this one. AMD says that intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed in some games when opening or closing other overlays, such as Xbox Game Bar, while the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition Performance Metrics Overlay is enabled on Radeon™ graphics products. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to temporarily disable the Performance Metrics Overlay before opening or closing other overlays. If you rely on an FPS counter, your options are to use the one built into the game or to stop pressing Win+G mid-match.
Windows 10 users should check Smart Access Memory after installing. If SAM gets turned off, you lose a performance feature without any warning. Check the Performance or Gaming tuning section of AMD Software after the update, and check your BIOS Resizable BAR setting if SAM won't stay enabled.
Section summary: Most known issues are tied to particular games and GPU generations. Owners of RX 5000 cards who play War Thunder, and owners of Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 systems, should be the most careful.
Should you install it?
Here's our take as an IT practitioner, based on the published notes:
- Playing Modern Warfare 4 on RX 6000 or newer? Install it. The stutter fix is aimed directly at you.
- Have an RX 6000 card or a Ryzen AI 300/400 or AI Max laptop? FSR 4.1 is a good reason to update, provided your games support it.
- RX 5000 owner who plays War Thunder? AMD's own advice is to stay on 26.9.1.
- On a laptop or all-in-one? AMD's long-standing guidance applies: the company recommends OEM-provided drivers which are customized and validated for their system-specific features and optimizations. AMD.com packages are reference drivers for mobile parts. Also, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition does not include support for handheld gaming devices, so handheld owners should wait for updates from their device maker.
Installation and rollback
- The driver is available through the AMD Software app's update check, as well as from AMD's support site.
- Supported operating systems follow AMD's current pattern: Windows 11 version 21H2 and later, Windows 10 64-bit version 21H2 and later, and AMD notes that operating system support may vary depending on your specific AMD Radeon product.
- Confirming the install: the package lists Driver Version 26.20.15.07 for Windows® 10 and Windows® 11 (Windows Driver Store Version 32.0.32015.7029), along with a second package, version 25.10.45.16. Look for the Driver Store version under your display adapter's Driver tab in Device Manager.
- Rolling back: if you go back to 26.9.1 or an earlier release, AMD recommends running its Cleanup Utility first so leftover files from the newer branch don't cause problems.
The jump from the 26.10.x driver branch (26.9.1 shipped as 26.10.41.03) to a 26.20.x branch indicates a new base driver, not a small point update. That's our reading of the version numbers, not something AMD has stated. A new branch often brings new features like wider FSR 4.1 support, and it can also bring new issues. That makes reading the known-issues table before installing a sensible precaution.
Bottom line
Adrenalin 26.10.1 is a fairly typical game-ready driver with one significant addition. Modern Warfare 4 and FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE players get official support, and Modern Warfare 4 players on RX 6000 and newer get a stutter fix. The bigger news may be FSR Upscaling 4.1 coming to RX 6000 cards and recent Ryzen AI processors. Before you click update, check the known-issues table against your own GPU and your game library. The overlay crash and the Windows 10 Smart Access Memory issue are the two most likely to affect you.

Update: FSR 4.1 is also headed to Xbox Series consoles (October 20, 2026)
The Verge reports that AMD’s FSR 4.1 is coming soon to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, alongside support for Xbox Ally X handhelds. AMD and Microsoft have not provided a release date for the console rollout.
For PC users, this does not change the Adrenalin 26.10.1 support already covered above: RX 6000-series GPUs and the listed Ryzen AI 300/400 and Ryzen AI Max 300/400 systems receive FSR 4.1 through the new driver. The Xbox expansion is separate and will require game-developer adoption after the console-side rollout.
