What the leak says
According to Weibo leaker Golden Pig Upgrade, the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 has eight cores and 16 threads. The two details that stand out are 24 MB of L3 cache and an iGPU with 16 compute units, which is believed to be the Radeon 890M. VideoCardz, Wccftech, Guru3D and Notebookcheck all picked up the story on October 19. Guru3D says IT Home reported the alleged specs the same day, citing the same leaker. That means the coverage traces back to a single Weibo post rather than several independent sources.
The Weibo post is terse. Wccftech describes it as listing "8C16T, 24MB L3, 16CU" alongside an anime avatar and an emoji. That is a thin foundation for a product story.
Where it would sit in the lineup
The Ryzen AI 400 series currently has only two HX variants, and both are Ryzen AI 9 parts. The submitted report puts those two at 12 cores, 24 threads and boost clocks up to 5.2 GHz. It lists up to 60 TOPS of NPU performance for the HX 475 and up to 55 TOPS for the HX 470, and both use Radeon 890M graphics.
If the leak is right, the HX 455 would sit between existing parts:
| Chip | Cores / threads | iGPU compute units | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen AI 9 HX 475 / HX 470 | 12 / 24 | 16 (Radeon 890M) | Shipping lineup |
| Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 | 8 / 16 (reported) | 16 (reported) | Unconfirmed leak |
| Ryzen AI 7 450 | 8 / 16 | 8 (Radeon 860M) | Existing lineup |
VideoCardz notes that the Ryzen AI 7 450 already offers eight cores, but with Radeon 860M graphics at only eight compute units. The rumored HX 455 would double the GPU compute units and raise L3 cache to 24 MB, matching the 12-core HX models.
The "HX" label would also be new for the Ryzen AI 7 tier. Notebookcheck says the leak suggests a Ryzen AI 7-series HX processor may be on the way.
A handheld-style comparison
VideoCardz says the configuration resembles the Ryzen Z2 Extreme used in gaming handhelds, which pairs three Zen 5 and five Zen 5c cores with 16 RDNA 3.5 compute units. The Z2 Extreme has only 16 MB of L3 cache, against the 24 MB reportedly in the HX 455.
The sources disagree on the HX 455's core mix. Guru3D notes the source gives no architecture breakdown for the chip, so it isn't known whether it uses the same Zen 5 and Zen 5c mix. Wccftech assumes a 4+4 split, but that is its own inference rather than something in the leak.
What is uncertain
- The GPU name. Notebookcheck says that is all the information available, and that the iGPU is believed to be the Radeon 890M. Its German edition adds that the Radeon 860M or 880M are also possible. Sixteen compute units points to the 890M, but the post itself doesn't confirm the name.
- Clocks and power. Operating frequencies, power limits, supported memory speeds and availability are all still missing. The submitted report adds that the NPU rating is also unknown.
- Price and launch. No pricing or performance figures have been reported. AMD has not confirmed that the HX 455 exists or that the reported configuration is real.
What it could mean for buyers
Compute-unit count is only one input to integrated graphics performance. GPU clocks, the power budget the laptop maker allows, memory speed and cooling all matter, and none of those are known for the HX 455. A 16-CU GPU in an eight-core chip should not be assumed to match the 12-core HX parts in games.
The plausible appeal is cost and configuration. Guru3D reports that IT Home suggests it could give laptop makers a way to pair a smaller CPU with the larger iGPU, possibly lowering the cost of systems with the full graphics block. That cost argument is speculation. No pricing exists, and a lower-tier CPU doesn't guarantee a cheaper laptop.
For a thin-and-light buyer who wants decent integrated graphics for light gaming or GPU-accelerated creative work, a chip like this could be interesting. Anyone shopping for an AI PC should still look at the NPU rating, which is unknown here, and at the specific laptop's thermal design. Treat the HX 455 as a name to watch rather than a reason to delay a purchase.
Bottom line
The leak describes an eight-core, 16-thread Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 with 24 MB of L3 and 16-CU graphics, probably the Radeon 890M. It rests on one Weibo post, and AMD has confirmed none of it. Wait for AMD's own specifications, or for retail laptops and independent benchmarks, before drawing any performance conclusions.
