Dynamics 365 Business Central is getting a focused agent-interface update: grouped agent avatars and a dedicated action for starting new tasks. Microsoft’s AI at Work roadmap record, ID 573372, lists the change as Launched, with general availability in October 2026 for the web platform in Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant) environments.

The scope is modest but useful. This is a change to how people access and manage agents—not an announcement of a new agent or expanded automation capabilities.

What the agent UI update changes

Microsoft’s roadmap description identifies two improvements:

  • Grouped avatars: A change to how agent identities are presented in the interface.
  • A dedicated task-start action: A specific action for initiating new agent tasks.

The description does not identify the grouping layout, the action’s label or location, or which agents support it. It also supplies no Business Central build number or item-specific configuration requirement. That makes this a feature notice rather than grounds for a click-by-click guide.

The likely benefit is easier navigation: grouping agent entry points and making task creation explicit could reduce the effort involved in finding the right agent and initiating work. That is an interpretation of the described interface changes, not a measured productivity result.

Why navigation matters for agent oversight

An agent interface is more than a collection of friendly faces. It is also where users discover that automated work needs human attention.

Microsoft Learn’s “Supervise agent activities” documentation explains that Business Central agents can pause for people to verify information, approve draft documents, or resolve problems such as missing data. A notification badge on the agent icon signals that assistance is needed. This existing behavior explains why the presentation of agent avatars matters operationally, although it does not establish how the new grouping handles notifications.

Microsoft also documents two existing review approaches: the Tasks pane provides a task timeline and opportunities to guide blocked work, while document pages support reviewing field-level suggestions in context. Neither workflow should be described as newly introduced by roadmap item 573372.

For administrators and team leads, the practical evaluation question is therefore straightforward: does the revised interface make it easier to start work without making pending reviews harder to spot?

This is separate from the all-agent task pane

There is an important distinction from an earlier Business Central improvement. Microsoft’s historical release plan lists “Manage tasks from all agents in dedicated task pane” with general availability on April 1, 2026. That feature provides a consolidated panel for agent-generated tasks, including task details and navigation to affected records.

The October roadmap item instead describes avatar grouping and a task-start action. A shared task pane and a revised agent entry point are related interface concepts, but they are not interchangeable announcements.

Availability and administrator considerations

The record’s Launched status and October 2026 availability month do not establish an exact deployment day for every environment. Microsoft explicitly describes roadmap dates as estimates and warns that feature information can change. Customers should not treat the month alone as proof that their tenant already displays the revised UI.

There is also a distinction between receiving an interface change and being able to use an agent. Microsoft’s configuration documentation gives administrators control over individual Copilot and agent capabilities and user access. Those are general product controls—not evidence that this particular UI update requires a new activation step.

The takeaway: watch for a more organized agent interface and a dedicated way to initiate tasks in Business Central’s web experience. Evaluate those changes alongside existing review and permission workflows, but do not mistake cleaner navigation for newly expanded agent powers.
