What was announced
C8 Technologies says C8 FX Hedge is now available in the Microsoft Marketplace. The agent gives treasury teams, asset managers and family offices FX hedge-ratio recommendations directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. According to The Full FX, that includes Copilot in Excel, where ratios can be written into a treasury exposure tracker.
The Marketplace listing itself is more modest than the press coverage. It says users can ask FX Hedge, directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot, for the optimal hedge ratio between a base currency and any combination of foreign-currency exposures. The listing does not mention writing to Excel cells. Treat the Excel workflow as a reported capability, not a documented one.
Microsoft's side of the story is the Marketplace itself. Microsoft Learn describes it as a single destination to find, try and buy cloud solutions and AI agents, and says eligible purchases can count toward a Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC). That is procurement context. It does not mean every C8 offer qualifies.
What the product does
The listing names four signal families behind each recommendation:
- Macro: economic regime indicators.
- Carry: interest-rate differentials.
- Value: purchasing-power-parity deviations.
- Trend: momentum across multiple time horizons.
Users can also drill into analysis for any currency pair, configure custom portfolio weights, and adjust benchmark hedges and risk tolerances. The listing says a web app is included for interactive analysis and historical performance. C8's own site says portfolio optimisation across many currencies is available only in the web app. That limits what the chat experience alone can do.
This is decision support, not an execution venue. C8 says clients keep their bank and broker relationships. The Full FX quotes C8's Jonathan Webb saying clients can feed active hedge ratios into their execution management systems. No source reviewed shows the product placing trades, or guarantees compatibility with any particular execution system.
Getting it running in a Microsoft 365 tenant
C8's sign-up guidance for Copilot and Teams is short:
- In Copilot or Teams, open Apps, search for FX Hedge and choose Add.
- Sign in with the subscription email and the one-time code C8 sends.
- If your organisation blocks new apps, a Microsoft 365 administrator can deploy it from Settings, then Integrated apps, then Get apps in the admin center.
A second Marketplace listing for the Copilot agent notes that an active subscription is required. It points users to the Teams Store or Azure Marketplace, with a one-month free trial.
None of the material reviewed says which Microsoft 365 or Copilot licences are required. It also doesn't cover tenant permissions or regional availability. Confirm those with C8 or Microsoft before rollout.
Pricing and purchase routes
The Marketplace listing for the SaaS offer says every plan includes a 30-day free trial, and billing is handled through Microsoft Marketplace. C8's own pages describe a Pro plan at $99 a month and custom enterprise pricing. They say enterprise customers can subscribe through Azure Marketplace, and that Azure purchases can count toward MACC.
These are publisher-stated terms. They can differ by offer and change over time, so check the live listing before buying. C8's signup page also describes a Stripe checkout path for the Pro plan, and says Copilot and Teams integration needs Azure Marketplace billing. That is worth clarifying with C8 if you plan to buy via card.
Claims to verify before trusting them
Data handling. C8 says it never sees exposure data, positions or client names. It says the AI assistant processes data in the client's environment and calls C8 only to get hedge ratios and supporting analysis. All calculations and trade-file generation are said to happen locally. The Full FX reports this as C8's claim. The Marketplace listing doesn't document the data flows, retention or certifications. The listing does flag that the app can send data over the Internet. Request C8's privacy, security and data-processing documentation before using real portfolio data.
C8's help page also says customer data is not used to train AI models. That statement covers C8's service. It does not extend to Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT or your wider tenant, each of which has its own terms.
Performance. The Full FX reports C8's estimate of about €1.8 million a year per €100 million of EUR/USD exposure against a 50% static hedge. It cites a 2007–2018 back-test and live trading since 2018. C8's own website presents different numbers: +1.78% annual alpha, a back-test and live record from January 2007 to March 2026, and 57% winning months against about 51% for a static hedge. It also shows higher realised volatility for the variable hedge than for the static one (5.39% against 4.55%).
The periods and framing differ between the two, and I can't reconcile them from the sources. All of these are vendor figures, not audited results. They are also not a guaranteed saving.
Update cadence. The Marketplace listing says models are updated monthly. C8's help page says ratios are calculated from real-time market data. These may describe different things, model refresh versus data inputs, but the sources don't say. Ask C8 about model recalibration frequency and input latency.
Coverage. C8 says it covers all G10 currencies plus a growing set of emerging-market pairs. No dated instrument list was available, so confirm your specific pairs in the live service.
Beyond Microsoft
C8's help page says the service works with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude. C8's homepage also mentions Gemini. Those are separate platforms with separate data terms. The Microsoft Marketplace route adds billing and discovery inside the Microsoft ecosystem. It doesn't make the underlying models Microsoft's.
A reasonable evaluation checklist
- App approval: decide whether to allow the app through Integrated apps, and who owns that decision.
- Licensing: confirm the Copilot and Microsoft 365 prerequisites with the vendor.
- Purchase path: compare Marketplace billing and MACC eligibility against your agreement.
- Data flows: get written documentation on what leaves your tenant, and test with dummy data first.
- Spreadsheet actions: work out what permissions would be needed before any agent edits a treasury workbook.
- Policy fit: check whether the recommended ratios sit within your treasury's risk policy and approval process.
Bottom line
The verifiable news is that a quantitative FX hedging agent is now purchasable through Microsoft Marketplace and usable from Copilot and Teams, with a 30-day trial and an administrator route for locked-down tenants. The Excel automation, local-processing architecture and historical outperformance all come from C8, and they deserve the same scrutiny as any vendor claim. The agent is another example of Copilot becoming a front end for specialist third-party services, which makes IT governance of those connections as important as the finance team's enthusiasm for them.
