Candlemates is a small puzzle release, but it has a clear platform story. It is on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC. This piece covers the details that matter to Xbox and PC players: where it runs, which store features it has, and what it costs.

TheXboxHub reports that Afil Games both developed and published Candlemates. It says the game is out now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. The Xbox Store backs that up. Xbox Wire's "Next Week on Xbox" roundup lists Candlemates (Xbox Series) for October 20. The Windows listing on the Xbox Store also shows a 10/20/2026 release date.

The store treats each platform as its own listing. There is a Windows page and an Xbox Series page. Release trackers also list an Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One entry. TrueAchievements' release list shows Candlemates entries for Xbox Series X|S with Xbox One, for Windows, and for Xbox Series X|S alone. Treat these as separate store products, not one bundled purchase. Nothing in the listings I could see mentions Play Anywhere or cross-buy for this title.

How it plays

The goal is simple. You control two enchanted candles and push fire stones onto matching braziers. Each candle has a limited number of moves. The store description adds a twist on the two-character setup. While one candle is active, the other stays still. It can be pushed like any other object in the environment.

Later levels bring in more obstacles. The Xbox Store description lists pressure plates and stone barriers. It also says Undo and Restart options let you test strategies and try again. That matters in a game where a wasted step can leave a puzzle unwinnable.

Platform features by listing

These features come from the store listings. They are not hands-on testing.

ListingPlatform notesCapabilities listed

WindowsPlay with PC and Handheld; Handheld Optimized badgeSingle player, Xbox achievements, Xbox cloud saves

Some detail about the Windows listing for PC and handheld players:

  • The Windows page carries a "Handheld Optimized" badge. It lists play on PC and handheld.
  • It lists Xbox achievements and Xbox cloud saves. Those are the capabilities on that listing, and nothing there suggests they carry over between the console and PC versions.
  • Both US listings show an "Everyone" rating and two supported languages. I haven't confirmed which languages, so check your regional store page.
  • The Xbox Series listing includes Xbox achievements. TrueAchievements already shows several of them. They include "In Sync" for switching candles 25 times, worth 100 Gamerscore. They also include "Non Stop" for moving any candle across the map 80 times in total, worth 80 Gamerscore. The achievements track routine actions, so they look like easy Gamerscore for completionists.

Price: UK versus US

TheXboxHub says each version is priced at £4.19. That is the reported UK price. On the US storefront, the Xbox Store listings show $4.99, marked down to $3.99. The Windows page describes the sale as saving $1.00 and ending in about six days. The Xbox Series page shows the same sale.

The sale prices were visible at the time of the store snapshot. They may change, and prices differ by region. Check your own store before buying.

Context and verdict

Candlemates is not a big platform event. It is an inexpensive indie puzzler, and Afil Games has several similar low-priced puzzle titles launching around the same time. TrueAchievements lists Sneaky Purr and Kitties on Planets from Afil Games on the same October 20 date. Xbox Wire's roundup also lists Spray Trace and Railroad Swap from the publisher later in the week. Afil appears to be releasing games in quick succession, which fits TheXboxHub's remark about the studio.

The practical takeaways:

  • If you play on a handheld PC, the Windows version is flagged as handheld optimized.
  • If you collect Gamerscore, the achievements are listed, and the early ones look easy.
  • If you only want a low-pressure puzzle game, the limited-move design plus Undo and Restart is meant to reward planning over reflexes. Whether it holds up over many levels is untested here.

One caution about the Xbox Series listing: a published page has a store availability field, and the Xbox Series page's metadata marked it out of stock when it was indexed. That is probably an artifact of the page, since other pages show the game as "Get it now". I'd treat it as a reason to confirm availability in your own store before assuming anything.
