A lone armed figure faces a surreal, debris-filled corridor glowing red in a dark, ruined building.
Remedy has shipped CONTROL Resonant update 1.4.0, one week after the game came out. The biggest addition is unlimited New Game++, and there's a lot for PC players too: performance work aimed at lower-spec machines, HDR fixes, DLSS frame-generation changes, Steam Input repairs, ultrawide fixes and support for Razer haptics. MP1st reports that Remedy Entertainment has pushed out the latest game update for Control Resonant on all platforms. On consoles it shows up as update 1.400 on PS5 and version 1.4.0.0 on Xbox Series.

Remedy had trailed the release in advance. Communications director Thomas Puha posted that the studio was aiming to put out Update 1.4 for CONTROL Resonant on Thursday and promised full notes the next day. October 1, 2026 is that Thursday.

How we got here: a launch hotfix, then 1.4

According to its Steam store listing, CONTROL Resonant launched on September 24, 2026. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. On launch day Remedy put out hotfix 1.3.3, labelled 1.300.300 on PS5, to deal with complaints that combat dragged. Game Informer reported that the launch update would reduce the base health and required Falter (stun) level of most enemies, as well as the Dancer and Deserter bosses, and would raise Dylan's maximum Aberrant and Ability Strength.

That was a separate patch from 1.4.0. As of September 27, a fan-run update tracker still listed day-one hotfix 1.3.3 / PS5 1.300.300 as the newest public build, so 1.4.0 is the first numbered post-launch update.

According to GameWatcher's summary, Remedy said it's been happy with the game's stability and technical performance since launch, but acknowledged that the larger player base has uncovered issues that weren't as easy to identify before release. In other words: plenty of people are playing, and they've found the bugs QA missed.

Section summary: 1.4.0 follows the September 24 launch hotfix and is the game's first substantial post-launch update.

New Game++ and the quality-of-life additions

New Game++ lets you replay the campaign as many times as you like. GameWatcher noted that Remedy also adjusted rewards to make it easier to fully level every Zone during subsequent runs.

The other main gameplay and interface changes:

  • Build Power on the Loadout screen: Your Build Power number now sits at the bottom left of Loadout, so you don't have to dig through Stats & Effects. Remedy also warns that fighting enemies above your level is harder and suggests side quests, exploration and levelling up.
  • Upgrade alerts: A HUD icon tells you when there's something new to buy or upgrade in The Gap.
  • Pinned materials on the map: If you pin materials you need for upgrades, the Vendor icon on the map shows whether that vendor stocks them.
  • Unknown Zone: According to DSOGaming, the Unknown Zone now has 10% to 15% less combat.
  • Assist Mode: A new Power Core Charge Duration option lets you set the charge time anywhere from 100% to 300%.
  • Rush tutorial: A new Rush tutorial also explains that the skill can remove status effects.
  • Save slots: The main menu now has seven save slots instead of five. New Game+ runs and your original run are kept in separate save folders, which you can reach from the main menu's load screen.
  • Design tweaks: SHÜM Challenge scores have been made slightly easier, Sunder lasts a little longer, and miniboss and heavy enemy reactions to Dylan's Push ability have been adjusted.

Combat also gets a small mercy: if you've used up both your dodge and your jump, you get one of each back after an air execution.

Section summary: Unlimited New Game++ is the headline. Most of the rest makes progression easier to read and trims some friction.

What PC players should know

This part matters most for WindowsForum readers. Remedy says the patch includes several performance optimizations, mainly targeting the game's minimum and recommended PC specs. For reference, the Steam store page lists:

Spec tierCPUGPURAMStorage
MinimumIntel i5-8500 / AMD Ryzen 5 3500GTX 1070 / RX 5600 XT / Arc A58016 GB120 GB, SSD required
RecommendedIntel Core i7-10700 / AMD Ryzen 7 3700XRTX 3060 Ti / RX 6700 XT / Arc B58016 GB120 GB, SSD required

Remedy gives no benchmark numbers or frame-rate targets, so don't expect a guaranteed fps gain. If your rig sits near those two tiers, though, the patch was aimed at you.

The PC and graphics fixes, according to the notes:

  • HDR: Over-saturated highlights with the AgX tonemapper are fixed, along with aggressive artifacts and pixelation that were most visible with HDR.
  • Ray tracing: A crash when switching between RT modes is fixed.
  • Frame generation: Motion-blur shutter speed now scales with the DLSS/FSR frame-generation multiplier, and V-Sync can now be used together with DLSS Frame Generation.
  • Settings menu fixes: The frame-rate limiter no longer turns itself off when you change other graphics options. The render-resolution dropdown no longer shows a blank label after starting in exclusive fullscreen.
  • Controllers: The Steam Controller now reconnects after losing its connection, and Remedy says the fix also helps other controllers running through Steam Input.
  • Ultrawide: Several ultrawide aspect-ratio problems are fixed.
  • Mouse input: You can now use the slider in the Collectibles tab with a mouse. You also won't get stuck in the Options menu if you back out with the mouse while typing a code on the Redeem Code screen.
  • Razer haptics: Supported Razer peripherals now get haptic effects from events such as melee attacks and taking damage.
  • Lighting and streaming: Lighting performance is better in all Zones. Draw distances, streaming volumes and LODs were adjusted to cut pop-in. Performance on the Dancer Resonant approach path is improved.

There's also a fix for frame-rate drops during the Artist Resonant's special attack, which should help anyone who saw their frame counter dive during that fight.

A practical checklist after updating on PC (our suggestions, not Remedy's):

  1. If you used to avoid V-Sync with DLSS frame generation, try turning it back on and see whether you prefer how it feels.
  2. If the frame-rate limiter wouldn't stay on before, set it again. It should now survive changes to other options.
  3. If you play in HDR and highlights looked blown out, check the display calibration again. Remedy also fixed the calibration background not always being fully black.
  4. If you use a Steam Controller or anything else through Steam Input, unplug and reconnect it once to confirm reconnecting now works.

Section summary: The PC changes are the most useful part of this patch, but there are no performance figures, so treat any gains as likely rather than measured.

Audio, consoles and the bug list

Audio changes include a separate volume slider for radio dialogue, so you can balance speakers or headphones against the DualSense speaker. There's also a "Mute copyrighted music" toggle that turns off Apocalyptica's "Upperhand" in the opening credits, which is handy for streamers. Remedy says it fixed audio desync across the game, which it jokingly calls the haunting bug of Alan Wake 2. It also fixed problems restoring the music state after loading a save or entering and leaving The Gap.

On Xbox, the notes fix an issue with audio cutting out throughout the game on Xbox Series X. PS5 players get fixes for tear-like artifacts in some videos and for PS5 Activities starting at the wrong time or not ending properly. DualSense adaptive trigger effects were also fine-tuned.

The rest of the list covers quest blockers and broken interactions: The Last Taxi now gives its rewards, the call that starts Carbon Copy Part 2 now triggers, and the Underpass Fault route now lights up properly so you can progress. There are many map-marker fixes, though Remedy admits it probably missed some. Out-of-bounds exploits were closed, and subtitles and voice-over were fixed in every language, including missing non-English lines and the game switching back to English. Another fix stops the "Repeating, Refracting" achievement or trophy from unlocking too early.

These are individual fixes. They don't mean every player ran into every bug, and they don't mean the game is now bug-free.

What's next: Photo Mode

According to MP1st, Remedy plans to add Photo Mode in November as part of its post-launch roadmap. Remedy hasn't given an exact date, so treat it as a plan for that month rather than a confirmed release. It's not part of 1.4.0.

The verdict

A week after launch, Remedy has followed its combat-balance hotfix with a broad update that adds replay content, makes menus clearer and fixes a long list of technical problems, many of them on PC. The fixes for HDR, frame generation with V-Sync, the frame-rate limiter and Steam Input deal with the kind of problems that make players open a forum thread before they ever post a review.

What's missing is numbers. "Optimizations targeting minimum and recommended specs" is encouraging, but it isn't a benchmark. If you're on a GTX 1070 or RTX 3060 Ti class machine, your own before-and-after testing will tell you more than the patch notes do. Post your results in the forum's PC gaming performance threads.
