KitGuru and ixbt.games both report the same reassurance, citing Gibson’s comments to Icy Veins. For players weighing whether to continue investing time in Diablo IV, the message is encouraging. It is not, however, a lifetime warranty for Sanctuary.
What Blizzard actually committed to
Icy Veins reports that its BlizzCon interview with Gibson addressed the future of Diablo IV directly. His answer ties ongoing seasons to continued community participation, rather than treating Diablo V’s release as a cutoff.
A separate group-interview transcript published by WayTooManyGames records an explicit question about supporting Diablo IV seasons after Diablo V releases. Gibson answered:
“We’re planning on supporting seasons as long as the community continues to show up in D4.”
That wording establishes a plan, but not a fixed support term. The published answer does not specify a minimum number of seasons, a post-sequel release cadence, or the size of future content drops. Its condition is continued player interest.
The practical reading is straightforward: Diablo V’s arrival is not itself the planned end of Diablo IV seasons. It would be a stretch to turn that into a promise that every future season will match today’s scope or development resources.
Seasons are not the same as expansions
There is another boundary worth keeping clear. In its own BlizzCon interview, PC Gamer reported that no additional Diablo IV expansions are currently planned. Gibson described the team’s focus as seasons and the transition toward Diablo V, while leaving room for Diablo IV’s story to continue.
Those statements are compatible. A game can continue receiving seasonal content without another large expansion being on the schedule.
Blizzard’s official opening-ceremony recap also confirms that Diablo V is coming in spring 2029, while Diablo IV’s Amazon class pack is planned for 2027. These are announced release windows—not precise launch dates, and not evidence of a detailed post-2029 seasonal roadmap.
For readers, the distinction matters: a concrete upcoming class announcement and a conditional long-term support statement carry different levels of certainty.
Diablo III offers a useful—and qualified—comparison
Gibson points to Diablo II and Diablo III as examples of older games retaining active communities alongside newer installments. That supports Blizzard’s argument that the franchise does not need to operate as a conveyor belt where each sequel pushes its predecessor off the end.
But Diablo III also demonstrates why “still getting seasons” should not automatically mean “still getting entirely new seasonal themes.”
Blizzard’s official Season 30 announcement identifies it as the first season using a theme-rotation system, bringing back The Lords of Hell from Season 25. The company also describes the reintroduction of earlier themes on an approximately three-month schedule.
Our analysis: that precedent supports confidence in continued availability and seasonal activity, but not an assumption of unchanged content production. It does not prove Diablo IV will adopt Diablo III’s rotation model. It simply shows that long-term seasonal support can evolve into a different form.
What players should take away
Blizzard’s message is reassuring without being unlimited: Diablo IV and Diablo V are intended to coexist, with Diablo IV seasons continuing while its community remains engaged.
For existing players, there is no support-plan reason here to regard the sequel announcement as an immediate eviction notice. Equally, future season announcements—not broad reassurance—will establish what content actually arrives and how frequently.
The sensible expectation is continued seasons, with their eventual scale still unresolved. Sanctuary may have another successor coming, but Blizzard is not yet handing Diablo IV its retirement papers.
