Two gamers play a fantasy puzzle game featuring a magical castle courtyard at sunset.
Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School now has a firm launch date of November 5, 2026, and Xbox and PC players should know exactly what that covers. The date lands on PlayStation 5, Xbox, PC and Game Pass together. Xbox Wire's earlier listing was broader than the headline platform list in some reports, so the details are worth separating.

Two gamers play a fantasy puzzle game featuring a magical castle courtyard at sunset. What was announced

According to VGChartz, publisher iam8bit and developer Coin Crew Games confirmed a November 5 launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store. The game also joins Xbox Game Pass. Gematsu notes that the PlayStation 5 version is newly announced. The Xbox and PC versions were already known.

The PlayStation Blog also carried the date. Coin Crew's art director, Michelle Huttunen, wrote that the sequel is coming to PS5 on November 5. She said couch or online co-op is available from launch.

Xbox and PC details

Platforms. Microsoft's April 23 ID@Xbox Spring Showcase recap listed the game for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox on PC. It said the game would be day one with Game Pass and would support Xbox Play Anywhere. That recap gave only a 2026 window.

Some date coverage trims the platform list to Series X|S. TrueAchievements reports that the game launches on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox PC on November 5, and joins Game Pass that same day. Treat Xbox One as part of the plan, but note that the November 5 announcements I reviewed from VGChartz, Gematsu and PlayStation do not list it. Microsoft's own store listings are the best place to confirm it.

Game Pass. TrueAchievements says the game will be on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one. I could not confirm tier details in a Microsoft source. Check the Xbox Wire Game Pass announcement before assuming a tier, and don't assume Standard or Core access.

Xbox Play Anywhere. Microsoft's recap says the game supports the program. That means one purchase should cover both Xbox consoles and Windows PC. Microsoft's recap does not spell out title-specific limits on saves or progress, so I won't guess at them.

The date slipped from September

Coin Crew said the game was originally planned for September and that it moved the date to November to add polish. A demo was shown at gamescom 2026 on the Indie Arena Booth. Gamers Heroes reported that a Steam demo was also available.

What the game is

The developer describes the sequel as moving from the first game's more linear structure to an open-world campus. Between escape rooms, players can explore, find quests and secrets, and meet characters. Huttunen says puzzles are no longer limited to rooms.

  • Co-op: The game supports solo play, online co-op and split-screen couch co-op. Microsoft's recap says as much, and the PlayStation Blog confirms co-op at launch. No player count has been given.
  • Humanities Campus: Huttunen says players won't be able to enter this area at the start. They will see it from elsewhere on campus, including through a keyhole-shaped fountain.
  • Headmaster's Tower: The developer says this area shows more of the Academy's history. It also says the Headmaster's Office from the first game's opening escape became the visual target for the new art style.
  • No-Timer Mode: TrueAchievements, writing in April, described this as a new option for a slower pace. The promotional copy repeats it. I found no Microsoft or Sony confirmation, so treat it as publisher-described.

Marketing claims such as "first open world escape room game" and more than four million players for the original come from the publisher's own copy. I could not verify them independently.

What to check before November 5

  1. Look for the Microsoft Store or Xbox listing to confirm the console list, the price and any preload.
  2. If you subscribe to Game Pass, check the November announcements for the tier and for the exact catalog date.
  3. If you want to use Play Anywhere, buy once through the Microsoft Store or Xbox and sign in with the same account on both devices.
  4. Decide up front whether you'll play couch co-op or online. The studio says both are available from day one.

Bottom line

For Windows and Xbox players, this is a confirmed date for a co-op puzzle game that is already planned as a Game Pass day-one release. It also supports Play Anywhere. The open-world campus is the main design change, and the PS5 version is the only platform that's new this week. The details I could not confirm are Xbox One availability in this announcement, the Game Pass tier, pricing and preload. Those should come from Microsoft's store pages.
