A Windows 11 tablet with keyboard sits on a desk beside a mug, plant, notebook, and mouse.
A Chinese brand called Founder has listed a Windows 2-in-1 with a 16-inch screen, built on an x86 platform. It is physically much larger than Microsoft's Surface Pro, and it is priced to match the budget end of the market. Notebookcheck, citing a JD.com listing relayed by ITHome, reported the launch on October 5, 2026. Everything below is a manufacturer or seller claim. Nobody has tested the device independently.

What Founder is selling

The device is much wider and taller than Microsoft's Surface Pro series, with more ports to match its larger form factor. It is a China-market listing. International launch details remain unknown, so don't assume it will reach Western retailers.

The reported specifications:

AreaReported spec
Display16 in, 2,560 × 1,600, 16:10
Brightness / refresh300 nits peak, 60 Hz
Color72% NTSC
CPUIntel Processor N100 (Alder Lake-N)
Memory / storage16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD
Battery46 Wh (6,000 mAh)
PortsDual USB 3.2 Type-A and Type-C, microSD, 3.5 mm jack
Thickness / weight12 mm; 1.2 kg without stand and keyboard
Price (China)CNY 3,999 (about $596)

Notebookcheck notes that the company quotes 300 nits peak brightness, a 60 Hz refresh rate and 72% NTSC colour space coverage for the panel. It calls these rather budget specifications. It compares them with the 2,880 × 1,920, 120 Hz, 600-nit panel on IPS versions of the Surface Pro.

The N100 is the trade-off

The N100 is an entry-level chip. Intel's specification page lists it as a mobile part with 4 cores and 4 threads, a 3.40 GHz maximum turbo and a 6 W TDP. It also supports up to 16 GB of memory, which matches the Founder's configuration.

Notebookcheck says the N100 delivers less than half the performance of the Snapdragon X Plus (X1P-42-100) in the original Surface Pro 12-inch. The report doesn't say how that was measured, so treat it as a rough indication, not a benchmark ratio.

What x86 buys you is mainly compatibility. Native Windows apps, older utilities and drivers that struggle on Arm are more likely to behave. That is a general advantage of the platform, not a guarantee that every legacy program or peripheral will work.

The 16 GB of RAM and the big panel shouldn't be read as high-end performance. A 6 W-class chip driving a 2,560 × 1,600 screen is a light-productivity setup: browsing, documents, media and web apps. No source supplies thermals, fan or noise details, sustained performance or battery life, so none of those are claimed here.

The Surface comparison, kept precise

This is a "Surface alternative" in form factor only. Microsoft's current Surface Pro page lists the 12-inch model with a 12-inch PixelSense LCD at 2,196 × 1,464 and 90 Hz. The 13-inch model has a 2,880 × 1,920, 120 Hz OLED or LCD display. The page also shows Surface Pro pricing from $1,149.99 for the 12-inch.

Microsoft's current generation uses Snapdragon X2 chips, not the Snapdragon X Plus that Notebookcheck cites for the original Pro 12-inch. Don't compare the Founder against "Surface Pro" as one fixed spec. The comparison changes by model, display option and generation.

Price comparisons need the same care:

  • Founder's CNY 3,999 (about $596) is a China price. It is not a US price and doesn't account for taxes or import costs.
  • Notebookcheck says the price includes the detachable stand and keyboard, unlike the Surface Pro 12. The MPP 2.0 stylus is sold separately.
  • The two devices differ in market, chip and display, so the prices aren't directly comparable.

Practical concerns

  • Weight: 1.2 kg is quoted without the stand and keyboard. The accessories' weight isn't given, so the full carry weight is unknown. The device has no built-in stand, so the detachable one matters for desk use.
  • Ports: Notebookcheck lists the port counts but not USB-C capabilities. Charging, display output and data speeds are unspecified.
  • Unknowns: The Windows edition, wireless specs, keyboard layout, warranty and upgradeability are not covered in the report.

Bottom line

The Founder 16-inch 2-in-1 is a large-screen, x86 Windows detachable with a keyboard and stand bundled at a listed China price. It looks aimed at buyers who want screen size and legacy-friendly ports more than speed. The N100, 60 Hz panel and 300-nit brightness are budget-tier. The 12 mm thickness is also a manufacturer claim. Until there is independent testing and word on international availability, treat it as an interesting spec sheet, not a Surface substitute.
