A warrior wielding a massive saw confronts a towering, glowing-eyed scrap monster in a ruined industrial wasteland.
Gachiakuta, the anime about a kid who gets thrown into a pit full of garbage and monsters, now has a game with a real name. Com2uS has confirmed that Gachiakuta: Breakout, a survival action RPG based on the series, will launch worldwide in 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam. For Windows and Xbox players, the more useful detail came from Microsoft's side of the announcement: the Xbox version will support Xbox Play Anywhere.

What Com2uS announced

The title and the first gameplay trailer were shown at the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 Broadcast on September 17, 2026. Until then the project was called Gachiakuta: The Game, which was always a placeholder. Com2uS first announced its game adaptation in December 2025, and several character-focused combat videos followed at AnimeJapan 2026, offering early looks at Rudo, Enjin, Riyo and Zanka. The Tokyo Game Show trailer is the first broad look at actual combat.

Here is what has been confirmed:

  • Title: Gachiakuta: Breakout, replacing the working title Gachiakuta: The Game
  • Genre: survival action RPG based on the Gachiakuta anime
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Steam
  • Release window: 2027, with a global launch
  • Other: an official brand website went live with the logo, the trailer and more game information. Com2uS says future news will come through that site, its social channels and YouTube.

Com2uS has not announced an exact date or a price. It also hasn't published detailed PC system requirements.

Summary: the game now has a final name, a 2027 window and three platforms, but no date or price.

Xbox Play Anywhere and Steam are separate purchases

Com2uS's own announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and Steam and doesn't mention Play Anywhere. Xbox Wire's Tokyo Game Show recap adds that the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC in 2027, and that players can play on both console and PC at no additional cost through Xbox Play Anywhere. Inven Global reported the same thing: the game will release in 2027 for PC, XSX|S, and PS5, and will support Xbox Play Anywhere.

That means there are two different ways to play on PC:

RouteWhat's confirmedWhat's unknown
Xbox on PC (Microsoft Store / Xbox app)Play Anywhere support with Xbox Series XS
SteamConfirmed by Com2uSWhether it shares any entitlement with Xbox
Xbox Series XSConfirmed by Com2uS and Xbox Wire
PlayStation 5Confirmed by Com2uSRelease date, price

Play Anywhere works through a Microsoft account. Essential Japan describes it as allowing a single digital purchase to be used across compatible Xbox consoles and Windows PC. That shared license is tied to the Xbox ecosystem. Nothing announced so far suggests a Steam copy would unlock the Xbox console version, or the other way round.

The practical advice is simple. If you want one purchase that covers both a Series X|S and a Windows PC, the Xbox and Xbox-on-PC route is the one that has been confirmed. If your library lives on Steam, Steam is an option, but assume it's a separate purchase until Com2uS says otherwise. An Xbox Store product page for the game is already listed, and Com2uS's materials also point to a Steam store page.

Xbox Wire didn't mention Game Pass for this game. It did name Game Pass for other showcase titles such as Persona 4 Revival and Raji: Kaliyuga, so don't assume Breakout will be on the service.

Summary: Play Anywhere is the headline for Xbox and Windows players. Steam is confirmed, but only as its own storefront.

What the trailer shows

The trailer features four main characters (Rudo, Enjin, Zanka and Riyo), each with their own weapon and fighting style. The main sequence is a boss fight against Jabber, with the player controlling Zanka: dodging Jabber's attacks and punishing openings. Inven Global notes that the footage heavily features a battle between Jabber Wonger and Zanka Nijiku.

According to Xbox Wire, the game features melee-focused combat and "premium cartoon-style rendering." Inven Global adds that players will face various enemies, including Trash Beasts and outlaws, across the contaminated and forbidden zones of the Pit.

Com2uS says the combat "demands quick decision-making and aggressive action." That is the publisher describing its own game in a trailer made to sell it, not a hands-on assessment, and nobody outside the studio has played it yet. Pixel Twelve points out that the visible footage is marked as work in progress.

Summary: the trailer shows a character-based melee brawler built around boss fights. How it actually plays won't be known until people get their hands on it.

Co-op and other open questions

Co-op multiplayer is the unclear point. Gematsu's coverage of the game's feature list says it supports real-time co-op play and mentions collecting hidden graffiti throughout the Pit. Pixel Twelve takes a more cautious view and advises readers to treat any promised co-op mode, open world or specific combat system circulating online as speculation until Com2uS shows it.

Co-op appears in the game's feature text as reported by Gematsu, but the trailer didn't demonstrate it and the publisher hasn't explained how it works. Still unanswered:

  • Is co-op online, local, or both?
  • Is there cross-play between Xbox, PlayStation and Steam?
  • Does Play Anywhere progress carry between console and PC in practice? That's how the program is designed, but Com2uS hasn't described its setup.
  • What is the "survival" part: resource pressure, crafting, or just enemies that hit hard?

Summary: co-op is listed but hasn't been shown, and cross-play hasn't been addressed.

Background: the series and the publisher

Gachiakuta began as a manga by Kei Urana, with graffiti designs by Hideyoshi Andou, and has been serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine since 2022. Com2uS's background material says the Bones Film TV anime began airing in July 2025 across two consecutive cours, won awards including at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and has a second season in production. The story follows Rudo, who after being falsely accused of murder and cast into the Pit himself, discovers an ability to draw power from discarded objects and eventually joins the Cleaners.

Com2uS is best known for mobile games, Summoners War above all. A full console and PC action RPG from an anime licence is a different kind of project for the company, and anime tie-in games have a mixed track record. The art style usually holds up. The combat depth and what players do between fights are what usually decide these games, and that's the part Com2uS hasn't shown yet.

Summary: the licence is popular, but this is an unusual kind of project for Com2uS.

Bottom line

Gachiakuta: Breakout has a name, real gameplay footage and a 2027 target on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and Steam. For Windows and Xbox players, the confirmed Xbox Play Anywhere support is the most useful detail: one Xbox purchase covers both console and PC. The release date, price, PC requirements, how co-op works and any cross-play plans are all still unconfirmed, so decide where to buy once those are announced.
