Two adventurers explore an overgrown tropical ruin overlooking a dramatic island coastline, with a motorcycle and expedition gear nearby.
Graytail, the 2.5D pixel-art mystery adventure from the two-person studio Concode, is heading to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Those versions join its previously announced Steam release. Gematsu reported the news on October 20, 2026. Xbox Wire's recap of the ID@Xbox and IGN Showcase gave the most precise timing. It says the game launches November 2027 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and will support Xbox Play Anywhere.

For Windows and Xbox readers, the useful part is the platform plumbing, not the pixel art. Here is what is confirmed and what is still open.

Two adventurers explore an overgrown tropical ruin overlooking a dramatic island coastline, with a motorcycle and expedition gear nearby. What was announced

  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, plus the earlier Steam version.
  • Timing: Gematsu cites developer Concode and says Q4 2027. Xbox Wire narrows that to November 2027, which fits inside the quarter. The coverage I found gives no exact day. Techtroduce notes that Concode has not confirmed a specific launch day or pricing.
  • Play Anywhere: Xbox Wire names Graytail as a title that will support Xbox Play Anywhere.
  • Trailer: Gematsu says a new Xbox Series announcement trailer accompanied the news.

A wording wrinkle: "Microsoft Store" vs. "Xbox on PC"

Gematsu says the PC version arrives "via Microsoft Store." Xbox Wire says only "Xbox on PC." Techtroduce's coverage repeats the Microsoft Store framing. Treat the storefront wording as Gematsu's description, not something the official recap spells out.

Xbox Wire also spells the title "Greytail" once in its body, though its heading says "Graytail." That looks like a typo, not a second game. Gematsu, Game Informer and others use "Graytail."

Why Play Anywhere matters for PC players

Xbox Wire says many of the showcased ID@Xbox games will support Play Anywhere at launch, so players can enjoy them across console and PC at no additional cost. In general terms, a single digital purchase covers both an Xbox console and a Windows PC on the same account. Not every showcased game does this, but Graytail is individually named as one that will.

Some limits apply:

  • Play Anywhere has historically covered saves and achievements as well. That is the program's general behavior, and I found no Graytail-specific confirmation of cross-save or achievement details.
  • None of the official material says Graytail is coming to Game Pass. Play Anywhere and Game Pass are separate things. Other titles in the same recap are explicitly labeled as Game Pass day-one releases, and Graytail is not.
  • I found no price, preorder date, console performance modes, PC system requirements, or regional availability.

The development backdrop

Concode's Steam announcements show a long road. An April post explained that the original second-half-2026 window was moving to the first half of 2027. The team said it had spent 40 months on the game as a two-person studio.

A later Steam post moved the target again. Concode said it had received funding from Outersloth, the indie fund run by the Among Us studio Innersloth. It also said the release was now "late 2027" because of combat refinements, a push on the 2.5D presentation, and extra content. The same post said the current demo would stay up through October 31 and come down on November 1, with a new demo to follow once it is ready.

Practical takeaway: anyone wanting to try the game before launch should grab the existing Steam demo before it disappears. The Xbox announcement itself did not mention a console or Microsoft Store demo.

What the game is, briefly

Xbox Wire describes a mystery action-adventure. A famous pilot has vanished somewhere in the Pacific. A detective whose headache never stops takes the case, with the pilot's daughter at his side.

Gematsu relays Concode's own feature list:

  • an island with five themed regions, explored by motorbike
  • physics-based puzzles
  • more than eight weapons, including canes, umbrellas and crossbows
  • three-hit combos, heavy and spin attacks, parries and tracking dodges
  • boss fights and villager conversations that hold clues

These are the developer's claims, not tested findings. Nobody outside the studio has reviewed the game.

Bottom line

Graytail's move to Xbox is a modest but concrete platform expansion. Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC are confirmed alongside Steam, the official timing is November 2027, and Play Anywhere is promised. Price, an exact date, Game Pass status and technical specs are all still unannounced. Given Concode's two earlier delays, readers should treat "November 2027" as a target until a firm date appears.
