What is confirmed, and what isn't
HP documents a sibling model, the TG03-0009na. HP's UK shop lists it with Windows 11 Home, a Ryzen 7 8700F, 16 GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD and an RTX 5060 with 8 GB. That shows HP sells this core hardware combination. It does not prove that the TG03-0043nl matches it part for part, or that the TG03-0043nl ships with FreeDOS.
The suffix letters (na, nl, ng and so on) mark market or store variants. Components can change with them. A retailer's listing is the only evidence for any one code.
Sibling specs worth knowing
HP's Ireland spec sheet for the TG03-0009na gives useful reference points. Treat them as belonging to that model, not as guarantees for yours:
- Memory: 16 GB DDR5-5200 as 2 x 8 GB, with 2 DIMM slots and support for up to 32 GB.
- Storage: a 1 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD, with 3 M.2 slots (2 for SSDs, 1 for WLAN).
- Power supply: 500 W, 80 Plus Platinum.
- Chipset and video outputs: AMD B650, with three DisplayPort 2.1a ports and one HDMI 2.1b.
- Warranty: one year, parts and labor, no on-site repair.
The source article notes that other TG03 variants list 400 W or 500 W supplies and different memory ceilings. Check the PSU wattage and RAM layout on the exact listing before you buy. Don't assume the TG03-0009na's 500 W supply or 32 GB limit carries over.
The CPU: fast enough, but no integrated graphics
AMD's 8700F is a Zen 4 AM5 chip with 8 cores and 16 threads. It boosts to 5 GHz. HP's own spec lists it with 16 MB of L3 cache. The source report also states AMD's 65 W rating and the "Discrete Graphics Card Required" note. I couldn't verify either point on AMD's page during this check.
The practical consequence is that the CPU has no integrated graphics. If the RTX 5060 fails, you have no video output until it is replaced. HP's Ireland sheet does list "Integrated, AMD Radeon Graphics" for the TG03-0009na. That conflicts with AMD's "discrete required" description of the 8700F. Treat the HP line as a likely template quirk, not as a usable fallback display. If you plan to troubleshoot with a spare GPU, check this first.
"AI PC" is not Copilot+ PC
The listing's "AI PC" tag reflects the NPU in the CPU. HP lists the 8700F's NPU at 16 TOPS. Microsoft's Copilot+ PC guidance requires an NPU of 40 TOPS or more, so this machine doesn't qualify. That doesn't mean it can't run AI software. Many tools use the GPU instead, depending on the application.
The RTX 5060 and its 8 GB
Retailers list the same Ryzen 7 8700F and RTX 5060 combination in other Omen 16L variants. NVIDIA's own figures for the card are:
- 8 GB of GDDR7 dedicated memory, as HP also specifies.
- A launch in May 2025 at a $299 MSRP, with 3,840 CUDA cores.
- Positioning for high-frame-rate 1080p gaming.
NVIDIA's performance charts compare the RTX 5060 with the RTX 4060 using DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation on the 50-series card. Those are vendor numbers from a specific test rig, not independent benchmarks. The card comes in one 8 GB version. The RTX 5060 Ti is the one offered with 16 GB. At 1080p, 8 GB is workable for most games. Heavy textures, ray tracing or higher resolutions will push against it. How soon depends on the game.
FreeDOS: you must supply the operating system
FreeDOS means the box boots to a bare environment, not a desktop. You need your own Windows license or a Linux distribution. The steps below are the standard Windows 11 route:
- On another PC, download Microsoft's Windows 11 media creation tool and make a USB installer. The source suggests a stick of at least 8 GB.
- Plug it into the Omen and open the boot menu in the BIOS or firmware to boot from USB. The key varies by machine, so check HP's documentation.
- Run the installer and pick the 1 TB SSD as the target. Installing will erase anything on the drive, so confirm the selection.
- Enter your product key when prompted, or activate afterward.
- Install the NVIDIA graphics driver and the chipset, network and audio drivers. Take the latter from HP's support page for your model if available, because I couldn't confirm HP's driver coverage for this code.
AMD lists Ubuntu among the operating systems the 8700F supports. That is processor-level support, not HP validation for this desktop. Expect most commercial games to run better on Windows.
Price context
The Pillitteri article cites a Dutch retailer, Coolblue, listing an Omen 16L with the same core parts at €1,229. The recommended price was €1,349. That listing names neither the operating system nor the TG03 code, so it is a benchmark, not a quote for this machine. The same article reports an AMD Ryzen 5 8400F version hitting $545.99 during Black Friday 2025, citing Notebookcheck. I haven't checked current prices, so verify them yourself. If a Windows-equipped version costs about the same, it is the better deal. FreeDOS only makes sense if the discount covers a license.
Verdict
On paper this is a sensible 1080p gaming box, as long as you accept a few limits:
- The 8 GB of VRAM is the main constraint.
- You pay extra for Windows.
- The 16 TOPS NPU is irrelevant for Copilot+ features.
- Power supply, RAM layout and upgrade headroom need checking on the exact listing.
If the store can't show those details for the TG03-0043nl, treat the specs as unverified and ask before you pay.
