The three designs
Huawei Pura X Max. This is a book-style foldable with a 7.7-inch inner screen and a 5.4-inch cover screen. GSMArena's table lists it at 166.5 x 120 x 5.2 mm unfolded, 229 g. Huawei's own spec page gives the same dimensions and weight, and lists a 2584 × 1828 inner display. The inner screen is wide and landscape-leaning, which sets it apart from the other two.
Microsoft Surface Duo. This is not a single folding panel. Microsoft describes it as pairing Android with Microsoft 365 apps including Office, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and Edge. Two separate 5.6-inch AMOLED screens combine into an 8.1-inch workspace. Microsoft lists it at 186.9 mm wide open and 250 g, with a 360° hinge.
Google Pixel Fold. This is a book-style foldable with a 7.6-inch inner OLED and a conventional cover display. GSMArena lists it at 283 g, the heaviest of the three. It also lists 139.7 x 158.7 mm unfolded, which makes it much squarer than the Duo or the Huawei.
The three inner-screen diagonals are close (7.7, 8.1 and 7.6 inches). Diagonal size alone doesn't tell you how much usable space you get, because aspect ratio, bezels and the Duo's central seam all differ.

Huawei's own page confirms the 5300 mAh typical battery, 66 W wired charging, 50 W Huawei wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. It also confirms the 50 MP / 12.5 MP / 50 MP rear camera setup and about 3.5× optical zoom. Huawei notes the phone is not a professional waterproof device. These are manufacturer figures, not tested results, so they say nothing about real-world camera quality or charging speed.
Microsoft's own support page confirms the Duo's Snapdragon 855, 6 GB of RAM, UFS 3.0 storage and 18 W charger. The Duo has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 and LTE only. It runs on a single adaptive camera that serves as both front and rear.
Software support is the real divider
This is where the comparison matters most for anyone thinking of a used Duo.
- Surface Duo (1st gen): Microsoft's support page states the device has reached its end-of-servicing date and will no longer receive newer Android version and security updates. Microsoft's lifecycle table shows Android 10 at release on September 10, 2020, and September 10, 2023 as the last planned version and security update. It launched with Android 10 and received Android 12L as its last major update. GSMArena's "upgradable to Android 12" matches that.
- Pixel Fold: Google's update page says Pixel Fold gets 5 years of OS and security updates from when it first became available on the Google Store in the US. GSMArena lists it as released June 27, 2023. That suggests support into mid-2028, but that date is my inference from the five-year term, not a figure Google states on that page.
- Pura X Max: Huawei's page lists HarmonyOS 7. I found no long-term OS or security update commitment in the material available. I also couldn't confirm software-service availability outside China, so treat any claim about Western availability as unverified.
A caution on the GSMArena table: it lists HarmonyOS 6.1 for the Huawei, while Huawei's own spec page says HarmonyOS 7. I'd trust the manufacturer here and treat the GSMArena table as a snapshot rather than a final record.
What this means for Windows and Microsoft users
- A Duo today is a curiosity, not a work phone. Its dual-screen app groups and Microsoft 365 integration were ahead of their time. Without further security patches it keeps working but grows more vulnerable. That matters if you would sign in with Entra ID, Authenticator or corporate mail. Check your organization's device policy first.
- Link to Windows was part of the original pitch. Microsoft's page describes it as built into the Duo and paired with the Your Phone app on the PC. Don't assume it works identically today.
- Prices aren't comparable. GSMArena shows about €1400 for the Huawei, about €650 for the Duo and $437.27 / £429 / €838.89 for the Pixel Fold. These come from different markets and probably different conditions, and the Duo and Fold may be used or refurbished listings. I wouldn't draw a value conclusion from them.
Bottom line
The Pura X Max has the strongest hardware on paper. The Pixel Fold has the clearest update commitment of the three. The Surface Duo is the most historically interesting, but it is out of support. Microsoft's own documentation says so.
