A cozy living room with a large TV displaying a video game, consoles, plants, and a view of London.
Xbox gear is showing up in an unexpected aisle. IKEA and Xbox are marking the UK launch of their YXSTABY gaming furniture collection with a one-night preview in London. The "YXSTABY Cosy Zone" runs at IKEA Oxford Street's Live Studio on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, and the collection goes on general UK sale the next day, Thursday, 1 October 2026.

If you want to try the thumbstick stool before you buy one, this is your chance. Here is what is confirmed, what comes only from the event listing, and what is worth knowing before you go.

The Cosy Zone: event details

Verge Magazine reported the programme and booking terms. The official IKEA and Xbox announcements don't mention this event, so treat these details as the organisers' listing and check the live booking page before you travel.

  • Date: Wednesday, 30 September 2026
  • Time: 4pm to 9pm
  • Session length: 30 minutes, booked in advance
  • Venue: Live Studio, IKEA Oxford Street, 214 Oxford Street, London W1D 1LU
  • Nearest Tube: Oxford Street (as listed)
  • Booking: through DesignMyNight, with a £10 deposit that is refunded in full when you check in
  • Walk-ins: a limited number, first come, first served. Booking ahead is recommended.

Each session is meant to let visitors try the YXSTABY furniture while playing a set of relaxed Xbox games. The reported line-up is:

  • Minecraft
  • Minecraft Dungeons
  • Grounded
  • Tony Hawk 3 & 4
  • Forza Horizon 6

Gaming creator Yammy is scheduled to host the space during the evening. Visitors can meet her and may get to play alongside her. The listing also promises free food and soft drinks, plus a gift bag for every guest containing an item from the YXSTABY range.

Rules worth reading twice

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes before your slot. Late arrivals may get a shorter session or be turned away.
  • Cancel at least 48 hours before the event to qualify for a refund.
  • The deposit is refunded at check-in, so it won't come back if you don't show up.

Bottom line: it's a short, timed, free-in-practice preview. Don't assume every game or product will be available in every session, and don't treat the gift bag as a substitute for the full range.

What YXSTABY actually is

Take away the Oxford Street event and the product itself is well documented. IKEA calls YXSTABY nine pieces designed for gaming as it happens today, in any room of the home and alongside everything and everyone else in it. The company says one designer from each team worked together on every piece. XBOX brought 25 years of understanding how people play, IKEA over 80 years of life at home expertise, and the teams also visited homes where gaming is part of daily life.

Gear Patrol points out the difference from a normal brand tie-in. It describes this as a co-design process rather than a licensing deal. In practice, the Xbox influence shows up in shapes and details rather than logos.

The full line-up, as listed by The Gadgeteer: a rolling TV stand, rolling side table with storage, lounge chair, controller display box, toolbox with a lid that doubles as a laptop stand, monitor stand, thumbstick-inspired stool, stainless-steel D-pad platter, and D-pad cushion.

What each piece does

According to IKEA's descriptions and UK product listings:

  • TV stand on castors. It rolls to wherever you're playing and rolls away afterwards, with storage at the back. Dezeen reports it is IKEA's first attempt at creating a TV stand since 2012. The UK listing gives a 137 cm-wide shelf, 44 cm deep, with a 15 kg maximum shelf load. Check that against your TV before buying.
  • Toolbox. It keeps controllers, cables and hardware in one place. The lid closes over them and doubles as a laptop stand, so a dining table can become a gaming spot and then go back to being a dining table.
  • Side table on castors. It gives controllers somewhere to sit other than the arm of the sofa, with charging holes behind sliding doors. It measures 50 × 50 × 55 cm.
  • Monitor stand. It raises one or two screens, with storage underneath and holders for a phone, headset and controller. It is listed at 98 cm wide, 27 cm deep and 16 cm high, with a 20 kg shelf limit.
  • Lounge chair. Dezeen and IKEA describe a movable chair with a pocket for your controller.
  • Thumbstick stool. It was built from the controller's original 3D design files with Xbox's device designers, and the grip texture is there to keep you from sliding off. IKEA designer David Wahl says it tilts with you while you play. The UK listing gives a 110 kg maximum load.
  • D-pad cushion, D-pad platter and mirrored controller display box. These are the decorative pieces. The platter is 33 cm stainless steel, and the display box is 22 × 12 × 16 cm.

On looks, IKEA describes muted white, black and beige, with green used on the pockets, slings and compartments that hold gaming gear.

UK pricing and availability

IKEA's global newsroom says the collection was unveiled at Gamescom in August and will available in IKEA stores and online from 1 October. It adds that availability may vary by market. Verge Magazine says the UK launch covers stores and online "while stocks last."

Prices seen on IKEA UK product pages before launch:

ItemListed UK price
Wheeled side table£115
Wheeled TV stand£99
Lounge chair£89
Thumbstick stool (black)£35
Monitor stand£25
Controller display box (black)£15
D-pad platter (33 cm)£12

These were pre-release listings, so they could change by launch day. UK buyers should note that the US rollout was split. Gear Patrol reported US stores getting the range on October 1, with online availability following on November 30. The UK announcement says stores and online from 1 October. Check that on IKEA's UK site rather than assuming.

The sceptic's corner

YXSTABY is a lifestyle product, and it helps to be clear about what it won't do. The Gadgeteer put it plainly: YXSTABY will not improve frame rates, make a weak chair ergonomic, or replace proper cable planning. The problem it does try to solve is more ordinary: fitting consoles, controllers and charging cables into rooms that also have to work as normal living space.

This is also IKEA's third attempt at gaming furniture. Gear Patrol traces a path from the 2021 ROG/Uppspel collaboration, with its aggressive gamer styling, through the softer Brännboll range in 2024, to YXSTABY. Here the controller references are subtle design nods rather than branding.

As for the Cosy Zone, it's marketing, and it isn't hiding that. It's still useful marketing: you can check the TV stand's size, sit on the stool and see how the side table rolls before spending £115.

Should you go?

  • Go if you're in London on Wednesday evening, want to test the furniture in person, and can arrive early. A refundable deposit, free snacks and a free item make it low-risk.
  • Skip it if you just want to buy something. The whole range goes on sale the next day.
  • Either way, measure your TV, your space and your console's footprint before 1 October. Stock is only promised "while stocks last."

It's a modest event for a modest product line. For anyone whose "gaming setup" is currently a console balanced on a bookshelf, though, a TV stand that rolls into the cupboard afterwards might be the most useful Xbox launch this autumn.

Update: Hands-on report details Cosy Zone capacity and ticket-holder gifts (October 1, 2026)

A first-hand account published by Big Boss Battle on September 30 adds details from the IKEA Oxford Street preview: according to the outlet, organisers admitted 12 people per half-hour session, although the space still felt small and crowded. The report also confirms that Yammy attended and that visitors could test the furniture while gaming.

The gift-bag arrangements were narrower than the original listing’s promise of an item for every guest. According to Big Boss Battle, ticket holders received an Xbox × IKEA collaboration bag and an X-shaped pillow, while visitors admitted from the walk-in queue were not guaranteed a goodie bag.

For prospective buyers, the outlet’s hands-on impressions offer an early indication of how the furniture feels beyond product photos. Its reviewer reportedly found the wheeled TV stand more compact than expected and the thumbstick stools surprisingly comfortable. Those are individual impressions rather than measurements or an ergonomic assessment, but they provide additional context ahead of the collection’s announced October 1 UK launch.

Update: IKEA says thumbstick stool has a one-year availability window (October 2, 2026)

The YXSTABY thumbstick stool will reportedly be available for only one year, according to an IKEA spokesperson quoted by Mashable in its October 2 report. The spokesperson said most of the collection would remain available longer and that IKEA plans to expand its gaming-related offerings. That adds a product-specific limit to the earlier “while stocks last” guidance, although the report does not establish an exact withdrawal date or guarantee stock throughout that year.

Mashable’s hands-on testing also highlights two practical considerations not covered in the earlier preview. According to the outlet, the stainless-steel D-pad platter picks up fingerprints very easily, making it less suitable for frequent handling if keeping it looking clean matters. Its reviewer also reported being able to feel items stored in the lounge chair’s under-seat mesh pocket through the seat padding, though this was not uncomfortable during the brief test.

For buyers furnishing a console or Windows gaming space, those observations are useful checks before purchasing: try the chair with the pocket occupied, and consider how often the platter will be handled. The stool’s reported limited run is a reason to monitor local availability, rather than evidence that an immediate sell-out is expected.
