Killer Instinct leads, but not by a majority
According to ixbt.games, more than 60,000 people participated in Boon’s September 27 poll. It reported the results as follows:
| Game | Reported share |
|---|---|
| Killer Instinct | 49.9% |
| MultiVersus | 24.6% |
| 2XKO | 17.4% |
| Rumbleverse | 8% |
Windows Central independently reported the same four choices and found Killer Instinct in front, though its earlier snapshot put the game above 50%. Poll totals can move while voting continues; the figures above are ixbt.games’ reported snapshot, not a final result independently established here. At 49.9%, Killer Instinct had a commanding lead but fell just short of an outright majority. And an X poll measures the preferences of people who chose to vote—not the size of a potential customer base.
“Bring back” means different things here
The 2013 Killer Instinct has not received a full new installment, but it has not simply been abandoned. Xbox released an Anniversary Edition update in 2023, with fighter-balance changes and updated matchmaking. Xbox also made the free-to-play version available on Steam, offering a rotating free fighter alongside single-player, local and ranked modes. The Windows version arrived in 2016, and Xbox announced cross-network play with Steam in 2017. Those are useful distinctions for PC players: the poll is about wanting more from the series, not rescuing a game that cannot be played.
The alternatives are not all in the same position, either. Warner Bros. Games says MultiVersus ended online play and downloads after its final season in May 2025, while offline local play remains possible for players who completed its required download and login during that season. Riot, meanwhile, says 2XKO’s active development will end in December 2026 and its servers will remain online. As of this poll, that end date was still ahead—not something that had already happened. Rumbleverse was the fourth option; its inclusion alone establishes no comparable announcement about its future.
What about Injustice?
Injustice was absent from Boon’s four choices. Some fans read significance into that omission, but a poll with limited options cannot tell us why he left it out. It is not evidence that Injustice 3 is in development, just as Killer Instinct’s lead is not evidence that Microsoft has commissioned a sequel.
For Xbox and Windows players, the grounded takeaway is simpler—and still interesting: Boon’s audience picked a Microsoft fighting-game franchise by a wide margin, while the existing game remains playable and received a substantial update years after launch. Whether anyone builds another one is a separate question.
