For Windows and Xbox players, the important parts are the Microsoft Store listing, Xbox Play Anywhere support, a puzzling store date, and a price that adds up. Here's what has been confirmed.
What's in the bundle
This isn't a new game. It packages three existing compilations, and each one covers several titles. According to RPGamer's breakdown of Square Enix's announcement, the contents are:
- KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, 358/2 Days (HD remastered cinematics), Birth by Sleep Final Mix, and Re:coded (HD cutscene compilation)
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue: Dream Drop Distance HD, χ Back Cover (movie), and 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –
- KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC)
Know what you're getting before you buy. 358/2 Days and Re:coded are cinematic recaps, not the original handheld games, and χ Back Cover is a movie. The Sortir à Paris write-up that first flagged this release also says some of the content comes as HD cinematic sequences rather than playable games.
The three parts are also sold separately. The Magic Rain reports that players will be able to buy the games individually or as part of the complete bundle. The full KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] will be available physically and digitally. However, the individual collections will be released as digital-only titles.
Section summary: You get three collections: six works in 1.5+2.5, three in 2.8, plus KH III and Re Mind. Several of those entries are movies or recaps, not games.
Why the Xbox and PC listing matters
Microsoft's US Xbox Store listing names both PC and Xbox Series X|S under "Play with." It lists these capabilities:
| Listed capability | Notes |
|---|---|
| Xbox Play Anywhere | Shown on the bundle's store page |
| Smart Delivery | Shown on the bundle's store page |
| Optimized for Xbox Series X|S | Shown on the bundle's store page |
| 4K Ultra HD, 60 fps+ | Store-listed, not benchmarked |
| PC Game Pad | Controller support on PC |
| Single player | No multiplayer |
These are claims from the store page, not test results. "4K" and "60 fps+" on a listing don't promise those numbers on every Windows PC or every part of a collection that spans about twenty years of game engines. The Play Anywhere badge is the most useful line for anyone who plays on both a console and a PC. The listing doesn't spell out the terms beyond the badge, though, so check the store page before you buy if that's the reason you're choosing the Microsoft Store.
About Steam
Sortir à Paris says the collection is "already available on Steam" under a different name. That needs a closer look. The individual compilations have been on PC for years. Per Wikipedia's release history, 1.5+2.5 reached Windows via Epic Games Store and Steam on March 30, 2021, and June 13, 2024, respectively. Nova Crystallis likewise notes that this collection is now available on Steam or the Epic Store.
The new [I–III] product, however, is announced for Microsoft Store on Windows specifically. So the games are already on Steam, but this new bundle isn't launching there. If you already own the Steam or Epic versions, this release adds nothing for you on PC beyond the store-specific features and the bonus Keyblade.
The October 6 vs. October 8 dates
The US Xbox Store listing shows a release date of 10/6/2026, while Square Enix's announcement and its North American store say October 8. The Xbox description adds that players who preorder by 11:59 PM on October 7, 2026 get 48 hours of early access.
October 6 is exactly 48 hours before October 8, so the store date probably reflects the early-access unlock rather than a change to the launch. That's my reading of the dates, not something Square Enix or Microsoft has said. Neither listing gives a time zone or exact unlock hour, so don't plan your evening around a specific time yet.
Price check
The US Xbox Store lists the bundle at $74.99, and each of the three parts at $39.99. Buying all three separately would cost $119.97 at those listed prices, about $45 more than the bundle. That's based on the US prices shown at the time of writing. Regional pricing, sales and taxes will change the numbers.
Watch out for buying the same content twice. The Xbox listing warns that the product is also included in other bundles and asks buyers not to purchase the same content more than once. If you already own KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind on Xbox, check what's in your library before you buy the bundle.
Platform bonuses and physical editions
Each platform gets its own KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind Keyblade:
- Xbox Series X|S: According to Square Enix, buying the digital edition of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] or the digital edition of KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) gets you the Phantom Green Keyblade. Sortir à Paris cut the name off at "Ph."
- PlayStation 5: Midnight Blue
- Nintendo Switch 2: Long Night
Square Enix's North American store says these platform incentives can be redeemed indefinitely with a purchase of the game.
Physical copies are limited to PS5 and Switch 2, according to the Square Enix store. IGN's preorder roundup noted that no physical Xbox edition has been announced yet. Even the physical copies aren't complete on the disc or cartridge: Square Enix says the physical version needs an internet connection and an additional data download to play. Anyone hoping to keep an offline-only archive of the series should note that.
For Switch owners moving up, Nova Crystallis reports that those who purchased the cloud version on Nintendo Switch will be able to transfer their save data to the Nintendo Switch 2 native client.
Section summary: Xbox players get a digital release with Phantom Green. Physical copies are PS5 and Switch 2 only, and they still need a download.
Analysis: a re-release timed for Kingdom Hearts IV
Is anything here new? The games aren't. KINGDOM HEARTS III has been on Xbox One since 2019 and on Windows since 2021. What's new is how it's being sold and when. Square Enix announced the collection during a Nintendo Direct alongside a new Kingdom Hearts IV trailer, and the press release says KINGDOM HEARTS IV will launch for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and PC. The collection gives players one place to catch up on a famously tangled story before the next numbered game.
For Microsoft, it adds a well-known series to the Microsoft Store on PC, which has long trailed Steam. For players, the choice is straightforward:
- Already own the games on Steam or Epic? You don't need this on PC unless Play Anywhere between Xbox and PC matters to you.
- Own nothing and play on Xbox or a Windows PC? At listed US prices the bundle costs about $45 less than buying the three parts separately.
- Own KH III + Re Mind on Xbox? Check your library first, as Microsoft's listing advises.
- Want a physical copy? It's PS5 or Switch 2 only, and you'll still need an internet connection and a download.
Thinking of preordering on Xbox or PC? The deadline for early access is 11:59 PM on October 7.
Update: GameSpew reports 50% upgrade discount for existing owners (October 5, 2026)
Existing owners may have a cheaper route to the new collection: according to GameSpew’s October 5 hands-on report, players who already own the games, particularly on PS4 or Xbox One, can receive a 50% discount when upgrading. The outlet does not specify which purchases qualify, how eligibility is checked, or whether the offer extends to Microsoft Store purchases on Windows. Xbox owners should therefore check their account’s purchase options before paying the full bundle price.
GameSpew also reports that the native releases have not received further remastering or enhancements, although it describes faster loading and a more stable 60 fps frame rate. Its hands-on coverage focuses on Switch 2, however, so those statements should not be treated as measured Xbox Series X|S or Windows performance results.
For Windows buyers, the report leaves the upgrade question unresolved: it does not establish any discount entitlement for existing Steam or Epic Games Store owners. The potentially significant change is the reported console-owner discount, not a confirmed cross-store upgrade offer.
Update: Xbox installation reportedly takes about 200 GB (October 6, 2026)
The full Xbox installation of Kingdom Hearts Collection [I–III] reportedly occupies about 200 GB, according to PlayDayOne’s October 6 impressions published after the outlet received advance access. That adds a substantial storage consideration for buyers planning to install the entire collection, rather than just deciding which purchase option offers the best value.
PlayDayOne describes that figure as the footprint with the collection fully installed on Xbox. Its report does not provide a component-by-component breakdown, identify the exact Xbox model used, or establish an equivalent installation size for the Microsoft Store version on Windows. PC buyers should therefore not treat 200 GB as a confirmed Windows storage requirement. The report also does not establish the download size, which should not be assumed to match the installed footprint.
For Xbox players intending to keep every included compilation installed, the practical takeaway is to check available storage before downloading. The reported total is approximate, not a newly published official minimum requirement.
Update: Korean subtitles reportedly planned for early summer 2027 (October 8, 2026)
Korean subtitle support is scheduled for early summer 2027, according to Inven Global’s launch-day report on Kingdom Hearts Collection [I–III]. The outlet says the plan covers the newly supported platforms, including Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and also extends to the existing Steam and Epic Games Store releases. No exact release date is provided.
For Windows players who want Korean subtitles, the reported inclusion of Steam and Epic is significant: the language-support plan is not described as exclusive to the new Microsoft Store release. It therefore does not establish a reason to repurchase the games through Microsoft’s storefront solely for Korean support. Inven Global does not specify the update’s delivery method, any charge, or a title-by-title rollout schedule, so those details remain unresolved.
Inven Global also reports that a physical edition is planned to coincide with the Korean-language update, with further details to follow. The report does not identify its platforms or regional availability. This should not be read as confirmation of an Xbox physical edition or a change to the previously announced physical-release arrangements.
