Blocky adventurers celebrate around a glowing treasure chest beneath an Xbox game menu and rising green graph.
Minecraft Dungeons II has landed in the top five of TrueAchievements' weekly Xbox chart. The game launched on September 29, and TrueAchievements, which tracks Xbox player activity, ranks its Game Pass debut fourth among 2026 debuts so far. That's a strong result for a co-op action RPG. It also shows how Game Pass launches get measured, and it's worth reading with some caution about what the numbers can and can't tell us.

What TrueAchievements reported

Writing on October 7, TrueAchievements features editor Lee Brady said Minecraft Dungeons II sits at #5 on the Xbox Top 40 for the week ending October 6, 2026. It is also #4 among this year's Xbox Game Pass debuts. The site says the game drew 16.2% more active Xbox players than NBA 2K26 did during that title's Game Pass debut. It also leads Gears of War: E-Day on the weekly chart by 14.8%.

The ranked list of 2026 Game Pass debuts, as TrueAchievements gives it:

RankGameTiers listed
1Forza Horizon 6Ultimate, PC Game Pass
2Halo: Campaign EvolvedUltimate, PC Game Pass
3Subnautica 2Ultimate, PC Game Pass
4Minecraft Dungeons IIUltimate, PC Game Pass
5NBA 2K26Premium, Ultimate, PC Game Pass
6EA Sports FC 26*Ultimate, PC Game Pass via EA Play
7RV There Yet?Premium, Ultimate, PC Game Pass
8Palworld 1.0Premium, Ultimate, PC Game Pass
9High on Life 2Premium, Ultimate, PC Game Pass
10Buckshot RoulettePremium, Ultimate, PC Game Pass

The article's own list shows High on Life 2 as Ultimate and PC Game Pass only. I've corrected that row below to match the source:

  • High on Life 2 is listed under Ultimate and PC Game Pass only, with no Premium tier.

The asterisk on EA Sports FC 26 matters. TrueAchievements says its data leaves out PC player counts for EA Play and Ubisoft titles. That can push those games lower than their real standing.

An uneven comparison with Gears of War: E-Day

TrueAchievements admits the weekly chart isn't a fair fight. Its data runs through Tuesday, October 6. That covers Minecraft Dungeons II's whole launch week. It covers only the first day of full access for Gears of War: E-Day, plus that game's limited, pre-order-gated early access.

The site expects E-Day to overtake Minecraft Dungeons II next week. It also suggests that the current top five might be the final top five for 2026, unless Xbox has more surprises. Both are predictions, not results. Treat the year-end ranking as open.

What the numbers measure

This is a third-party analysis, not a Microsoft figure. The chart draws on gameplay data from more than 3.1 million active Xbox accounts. The chart credits Game Trends, formerly GameInsights. TrueAchievements doesn't publish raw player counts or a full methodology in this piece.

So the chart doesn't tell you:

  • How many people subscribe to Game Pass.
  • How many copies sold or were downloaded.
  • How many hours people played.
  • How popular the game is on PlayStation, Switch or Steam.

The percentages are relative comparisons. They say the game outperformed NBA 2K26 by 16.2% on this measure, not by how many players.

Game context for PC and Game Pass readers

Several other outlets confirm the basics. Xbox's product page lists a September 29, 2026 release for Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10/11. It describes the standard edition as included with Game Pass, and it advertises Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers console and PC.

Coverage in the wider press agrees on the tiers. Xbox has confirmed day-one access for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers on cloud, console, handheld and PC, and the Xbox Store marks the Standard Edition as the version included with the subscription. That matches the Ultimate and PC Game Pass labels in TrueAchievements' list.

Other reporting says Premium and Essential don't get it at launch. Since Microsoft stopped including day-one releases in all Xbox Game Pass tiers in September 2024, its new first-party titles have generally reached the Standard tier, now called Premium, six to 12 months after launch. That is Game Rant's observation. It's an inference from past patterns, not a confirmed plan for this game.

For PC players, Windows Mode says on PC it runs on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, works with a controller, and is included in PC Game Pass. Subscribers can install it from the Xbox app at no extra cost.

The game is also on other platforms. Reports say it launched on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Mojang says up to four players can play solo, online or in couch co-op. Xbox's own page notes that online console multiplayer needs a Game Pass subscription.

Why it matters

Game Pass day-one releases give Microsoft a direct way to put first-party games in front of subscribers. A family-friendly Minecraft spin-off finishing ahead of a heavyweight sports franchise like NBA 2K26 suggests that the Minecraft brand brings in players. That is my reading, not something TrueAchievements or Microsoft states.

There are caveats. A day-one subscription title costs a Game Pass member nothing extra to try, so a strong player count may partly reflect low friction rather than demand. The comparison also depends on when each game launched and on what Game Trends can see.

Bottom line

  • TrueAchievements ranks Minecraft Dungeons II fourth among 2026 Game Pass debuts so far, behind Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved and Subnautica 2.
  • It beat NBA 2K26 by 16.2% on active Xbox players in the launch comparison.
  • The weekly chart lead over Gears of War: E-Day is 14.8%, but E-Day had only a day of full access, so expect that to flip.
  • All figures are TrueAchievements/Game Trends estimates of Xbox activity, not Microsoft-reported numbers.
