MEG X: an ultrawide preview, not a launch announcement
Saiga NAK reports that MSI demonstrated MEG X, a tentative name, as an unannounced 34-inch OLED monitor with 3,440 × 1,440 resolution and a 360 Hz refresh rate. Its reporter played Forza Horizon 6 and praised the colors and wide view. Those are firsthand impressions, not measured performance; the report supplies no launch date, price, connectivity details or frame-rate results.
The practical takeaway is to keep three questions separate: What can the panel display? What display mode does Windows actually use? And how well does the game run? The booth experience does not establish that the demonstration delivered 360 frames per second.
The 950,000-yen LIGHTNING Z has an earlier history
The graphics-card display included RTX 5070 Ti, 5060-series, 5080 and 5090 hardware. Saiga NAK puts the GeForce RTX 5090 32G LIGHTNING Z at approximately 950,000 yen, a Japan-specific reported figure—not an established U.S. retail price.
Importantly, this was not the card’s debut. MSI announced the LIGHTNING Z on January 6, 2026, at CES, positioning it for extreme overclocking and liquid cooling. The announcement describes a full-cover cold plate, a high-pressure pump and carbon-fiber elements. That provides context for its appearance at TGS: an existing specialist flagship returning to the spotlight, rather than a newly revealed graphics card.
MSI’s product page also lists an integrated eight-inch display and boost clock of 2,730 MHz, with a 2,775 MHz Extreme Performance setting through MSI Center. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent evidence that the card offers proportionate value for ordinary gaming.
Anniversary desktop, handheld and moving-seat racing
Elsewhere, Saiga NAK saw a 40th-anniversary desktop with a curved display on its liquid cooler, gaming laptops and the Claw 8 EX AI+ handheld. An MSI/MOZA simulator running Forza Horizon 6 combined steering-wheel force feedback with a vibrating, swaying seat. A photo area featured a cosplayer portraying MSI character and VTuber Mihoshi Mei.
The simulator impressions should be read as experiential reporting, not our own testing or a recommendation to purchase a complete rig.
A useful Windows check for high-refresh monitors
For readers already using a high-refresh display, Microsoft documents a straightforward Windows 11 check:
- Open Settings → System → Display → Advanced display.
- Select the intended monitor if multiple displays are connected.
- Check its current resolution and refresh rate.
- Use Choose a refresh rate to select a supported mode.
Microsoft warns that rates marked with an asterisk do not support the current resolution; selecting one changes the resolution. Success therefore means confirming both the desired resolution and refresh rate—not merely choosing the largest number. Available rates depend on the display’s supported capabilities.
Microsoft also notes that Windows 11’s Dynamic Refresh Rate can limit the maximum refresh rate of some games. If enabling it produces that symptom, Microsoft recommends disabling DRR. This is general Windows guidance, not a finding about MEG X.
The event dates need one clarification
TGS’s official schedule originally covered September 17–21, 2026, with business days on September 17–18 and public days on September 19–21. Its website also records a notice concerning Typhoon No. 25 and September 21 ticket refunds.
KONAMI’s TGS page states that the September 21 event was canceled because of severe weather. Thus, September 17–20 describes the shortened run, not the original five-day plan.
Bottom line: MSI’s booth provided a concrete hardware preview, particularly the reported ultrawide OLED specification. It did not establish a MEG X retail launch, measured gaming performance or a universal LIGHTNING Z price. Admire the engineering; keep the purchasing verdict separate.
