Free here means free-to-play, not free forever and ever with no strings. The Xbox Store labels the game "Free+" and notes in-game purchases. It also lists Invisible Walls as developer and publisher and gives a release date of September 29, 2026. So the game had been on the store for about a day before the achievement list got attention.
What the game is
The pitch is simple. The Xbox Store says "Team up with friends to defend your home, use whatever you can grab, from frying pans to slingshots, destroy your neighbor's property before they destroy yours." Steam describes it as a chaotic online multiplayer party brawler where suburban rivals go to war, with PvE and PvP matches in which players destroy rival houses with everyday items turned weapons and defend their homes using traps, gadgets, and team combos.
The characters are part of the joke. There's Doreen, the sweet granny in her housecoat and boxing gloves, and Kevin, the neighborhood menace, slingshot in hand. TheXboxHub notes that players can also unlock gadgets such as the Seagull-130 Control Unit, which brings an altogether different kind of aerial nuisance to the proceedings.
There are four modes:
- Destruction: Smash your neighbors prized possessions before they wreck yours.
- Brawl: No houses, no rules, just pure team fighting! knock out the enemy to win.
- Prop Hunt: Hide as everyday objects or hunt down that sus couch.
- Robot Invasion: Team up in this PvE mode and defend your house against waves of invading robots.
The Xbox Store lists these capabilities:
- online multiplayer for 2–10 players
- Xbox cross-platform multiplayer
- single player
- Xbox achievements
- Xbox cloud saves
- Optimized for Xbox Series X|S
The listing names Series X|S only. It does not mention Xbox One, so don't expect a last-gen version. Sources also disagree on team size. VGTimes describes 4v4 team battles, while Steam's listing mentions matches of up to 5v5. The 2–10 player range on the Xbox Store fits with 5v5.
Section summary: It's a Series X|S-only, free-to-play team brawler with four modes, cross-platform multiplayer and optional in-game purchases.
From paid Early Access to free-to-play 1.0
The Xbox release is part of the game's full 1.0 launch, not a separate console port. Gematsu reports that the game has left Early Access and is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. It also notes that the game first launched in Early Access for PC on April 17, 2025, where it cost $9.99.
In its 1.0 announcement on Steam, Invisible Walls listed these changes:
- The game is now free-to-play.
- There's a new Neighborhood Pass, which is free for Early Access supporters.
- It launched on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation with cross-play.
- There's a new neighbor, Gwen.
- There's a practice mode called Practice vs. AI.
- There's a new house, Suburban House.
- Destruction Mode has been redesigned.
(Invisible Walls' Steam announcement)
Players who paid during Early Access get bonuses. According to VGTimes, they will automatically unlock all neighbors, including Gwen, plus two P.A. skins, and will receive the premium version of the Neighborhood Pass, which includes additional skins and supplies of the in-game currencies Pocket Pennies and Harmonies. That confirms the game has a battle-pass-style Neighborhood Pass and two in-game currencies. Parents should know about both before handing over a controller.
Section summary: The Xbox launch is part of the 1.0 release. The game went from a $9.99 Early Access title to free-to-play with a pass, two currencies and cross-play.
Reception so far
TrueAchievements says the game launched into Steam Early Access to a lukewarm reception. It adds that recent Steam reviews are still "Mixed" despite many updates. The Steam page captured for this story showed Mixed recent reviews, with 41% of 56 reviews from the last 30 days positive, and Mixed overall, with 66% of 755 English reviews positive. Those numbers change constantly, so treat them as a snapshot.
Keep in mind what those scores measure. They mostly reflect paid PC Early Access builds, not the free Xbox version that launched on September 29. Going free-to-play changes the audience and the price, and could change the verdict in either direction. For now, the scores tell you how the game's history went, not how 1.0 will do.
The achievement list: 17 achievements, 1,000 Gamerscore
This is the table TrueAchievements published, grouped by type. The descriptions are the achievement text, not playtested guides.
Survival difficulty ladder
| Achievement | Requirement | Gamerscore |
|---|---|---|
| Clanking the Clankers | Survive for 7 days or more on easy difficulty or higher | 25 |
| Heaps of scrap | Survive for 7 days or more on medium difficulty or higher | 25 |
| Recycling machine | Survive for 7 days or more on hard difficulty or higher | 50 |
| That is nuts! (and bolts) | Survive for 7 days or more on impossible difficulty | 150 |
The "or higher" wording probably means a single run on impossible unlocks all four. That's a guess from the text, not a confirmed stacking rule. The descriptions don't name a mode, but "clankers," "scrap" and robot-themed names point to Robot Invasion, the PvE mode.
Skill and situational achievements
| Achievement | Requirement | Gamerscore |
|---|---|---|
| Just Perfect | Win a match without losing a single house essential | 50 |
| Return to Sweden | Knock out a prop without losing any health | 100 |
| Take Me Higher | Take out 3 enemies with one Big Bertha explosion | 150 |
| Trickshot | Take out an opponent with the wrench from more than 20 meters away | 50 |
| Elephant In The Room | Survive all prop rounds as a huge prop | 150 |
| I love the smell of Cookies in the Morning | Knock out a player with the orange cannon while camouflaged | 25 |
| Take The Plunge | Hit someone with the plunger while they are airborne | 25 |
Quick unlocks and odds and ends
| Achievement | Requirement | Gamerscore |
|---|---|---|
| Feed The Animal | Get an assist from your guard animal | 25 |
| Against All Odds | Revive an ally while in combat | 25 |
| Salmonella | Get salmonella from an egg | 25 |
| Ding Dong | Ring the enemy doorbell | 25 |
| White Hawk Down | Shoot down the seagull | 50 |
| Secret Achievement | Continue playing to unlock this achievement | 50 |
The 17 entries add up to 1,000 Gamerscore.
What to expect
Nobody has published completion-time data yet, so any estimate would be a guess. The descriptions do tell you something, though:
- Some achievements need other players. Taking out three enemies with one Big Bertha blast, a 20-metre wrench throw, or hitting an airborne player with the plunger all require people on the other side. TrueAchievements points out that the orange-cannon knockout depends on input from other players. These will get harder if matchmaking gets quieter.
- Prop Hunt carries 250 Gamerscore. Elephant In The Room (150) and Return to Sweden (100) are both prop-related. Surviving every prop round as a large object will probably take patience and some luck with who's hunting you.
- Impossible difficulty is the big one. Its 150 points sit at the top of the survival ladder. A coordinated squad of friends will likely beat solo matchmaking. That's an inference from the description, not a tested claim.
- Boosting with friends is an option. The new Practice vs. AI mode and friend lobbies could help with some unlocks. Whether bots count toward player-knockout achievements hasn't been confirmed.
The TrueAchievements post ends by asking whether readers will go for "the Mythic achievement" in the game. That refers to Xbox's newly unveiled Mythic Achievements, which the same outlet reports are rolling out to Xbox Insiders. Exactly how Mythic works in this game isn't covered in the reporting.
Section summary: The ladder rewards a strong PvE team. The top-value multiplayer achievements need busy lobbies, so it's best to chase them while the launch crowd is still around.
PC players: what's on Steam
On PC, the game is on Steam, not the Microsoft Store. The Xbox listing names only Series X|S, so don't assume Xbox Play Anywhere or Xbox achievements on PC. Steam has its own set of 17 achievements. Cross-play still links the platforms. Invisible Walls says the game launched on Steam, Xbox and PS with cross-play.
Steam lists these system requirements:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 (64-bit) | Windows 11 (64-bit) |
| CPU | Intel i3 4130 / AMD FX-4150 | Intel i5 6600 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200 |
| RAM | 4 GB | 8 GB |
| GPU | GTX 650 Ti / Radeon HD 7850 | GTX 970 / Radeon R9 280X or higher |
| DirectX | 11 | 11 |
| Storage | 20 GB | 20 GB |
A broadband connection is required. Those are modest specs, and most Windows gaming PCs from the last decade should run it.
How to get started on Xbox
- Search for Neighbors: Suburban Warfare in the Store on your Series X|S and select Get. There's no purchase price.
- Check your network. Multiplayer is central to the game, and several achievements need live opponents.
- If kids will play, set purchase controls in the Xbox Family Settings app first. The store lists in-game purchases and user interaction, and the game is rated PEGI 12 for moderate violence.
- Team up with friends for the Robot Invasion difficulty ladder and the multi-kill achievements.
Bottom line
For Xbox achievement hunters, this is a real 1,000-Gamerscore list with no entry price, from a studio that has spent more than a year reworking the game. The PC Steam reviews are still Mixed, so it's fair to wonder whether the free launch will bring in enough players to keep matchmaking healthy. If the lobbies stay busy, the skill-based achievements are fun to chase. If they empty out, Prop Hunt and the cannon and plunger achievements will get much harder. If you want the full list, play it early.
