A dramatic tech collage features a large graphics card, gaming console, chips, and a timeline marked 2028–2029.
Nobody outside NVIDIA knows when the next budget GeForce card will ship. A well-known leaker now says it could be 2029. Here is what is actually on the table, and what it means if you're planning a GPU purchase.

A dramatic tech collage features a large graphics card, gaming console, chips, and a timeline marked 2028–2029. What the leak says

Leaker Kepler_L2 said on the NeoGAF forums that the RTX 6060 will launch "much later," which Wccftech reads as pointing toward 2029. Per the evidence brief on the original NeoGAF post, his wording was close to: "6060 will launch much later (and based on recent trends I doubt it will match PS6)."

VideoCardz adds a second strand. The leaker explained that NVIDIA tends to delay lower-end GPU launches during supply shortages. He also suggested the card may offer lower gaming performance than Sony's upcoming PlayStation 6.

The name itself is a placeholder. RTX 6060 is not a confirmed product name. VideoCardz notes that NVIDIA's only public mention of a Rubin PCIe product concerns data centers, not consumer GeForce cards.

The 2028 backdrop

The 2029 idea builds on an earlier rumor. Tom's Hardware reported on September 21, 2026 that Kopite7Kimi, a leaker with a strong track record, said the Rubin-based RTX 60 series wouldn't arrive before 2028. Tom's Hardware quotes him calling GR20x "a product from 2028," which he took to mean another postponement. NVIDIA's response was its standard line that it doesn't comment on rumors or unannounced products.

PC Games Hardware's recap shows how much the dates have moved. Earlier claims pointed to early 2027 (RedGamingTech, November 2025) and the second half of 2027 (kopite7kimi, January 2026). By February 2026, reports tied a shift to 2028 to the memory crisis. It also notes that the gap between flagship and midrange would be unusually large.

Where 2029 comes from

Wccftech's arithmetic is simple. It cites a roughly 4–6 month gap between 90/80-class cards and 60-class cards. If high-end RTX 60 cards land around mid-2028 or later, a 6060 would slide into 2029. That is Wccftech's extrapolation from history. NVIDIA hasn't disclosed it.

VideoCardz offers a longer view of x60-class history:

CardReleaseGap since previous
GTX 660Sept 201216 months
GTX 760June 20139 months
GTX 960Jan 201519 months
GTX 1060July 201618 months
RTX 2060Jan 201930 months
RTX 3060Feb 202125 months
RTX 4060June 202328 months
RTX 5060May 202523 months
RTX 6060 (unconfirmed)2029 (rumored)~44 months

VideoCardz puts the average wait since Kepler at 21 months, so a 2029 launch would mean at least 44 months. The site itself says it doesn't expect NVIDIA to make buyers wait that long. It also warns that announcement and retail dates often differ.

The PlayStation 6 comparison

Treat this as opinion. The forum post gives no configuration, workload, resolution or power figures. The PS6's RDNA 5-based SoC is also still a report, not a published specification. Vgtimes reports the same leaker expects the PS6 to land near RTX 5070 Ti or even RTX 5080 level. That claim is secondhand and unverified, so don't read it as a benchmark. As the French site Cowcotland points out, neither the console's final specs nor the GPU's are known.

Why a delay is plausible

Tom's Hardware offered two possible reasons for the 2028 slip. One is NVIDIA's data center business, which reportedly has little incentive to divert resources to consumer GPUs while demand is strong. The other is constrained memory and wafer supply amid high component costs. Wccftech also says VRAM shortages have reportedly led to the cancellation of the RTX 50 "SUPER" series. These are reported explanations, not NVIDIA statements.

There is also a counterargument. A single forum comment is thin evidence, and Kepler_L2's dates have already been disputed in this saga. PC Games Hardware notes he called another leaker's 2027 claims wrong, while the same leaker had earlier been right on other hardware details. Leaker dates for unannounced products shift often.

What to do if you're shopping

  • Don't plan around 2029. No official 6060 date exists, so treat it as a scenario rather than a schedule.
  • Buy for current needs. If your GPU is failing or too slow, waiting on a rumor is a poor strategy. Compare what is on shelves now.
  • Check prices and availability yourself. Wccftech reports that the memory shortage has affected supply of existing cards, so stock and pricing can change quickly.
  • Expect more rumors. Kopite7Kimi said he would limit updates until there is definite news. Weigh any new leak accordingly.

Bottom line

The 2029 RTX 6060 claim is one leaker's forecast layered on an earlier, also unconfirmed, 2028 RTX 60 timeline. It is plausible if NVIDIA staggers its launches and memory stays tight. NVIDIA has said nothing official on any of it.
